Topic: Breeds Club / Australian Shepherds aka Aussies Oh that just burns me! I've had people come up to me and explain how surprised they are at how friendly and well behaved my puppy is because they knew an Aussie who was left outside all the time and he/she was really nasty. Hmm, let's see - you take an animal who needs human companionship, you don't train him, you don't give him a job, and then you wonder why he turns mean. To me that's animal abuse, plain and simple. My pup would wither up and die if I did that to him. It's also one of the reasons when people ask me what kind of dog he is because he's SOOOO cute and well behaved, I immediately launch into how they are great dogs IF you are willing to exercise 2/3 hours a day, spend time training and finding something for him to do as a job, and spend a lot of time with him because he will need to be by your side a lot. |

Topic: Travel / Traveling with your pet I'm surprised about Santa Cruz as well. Dogs are prohibited on the Boardwalk and on the Wharf (except locked in cars!). They are allowed on one beach, but that's it. And there's flak about that beach, too. I guess the free spirited hippies don't like dogs. *shrugs* San Jose isn't too bad. Remember Valley Fair Mall? They did a huge expansion called Santana Row - it's an outdoor mall - complete with stores like Gucci, Burberry, Ferrigamo, and wonderful restaurants. Many of the restaurants have outside seating and they allow dogs. Dogs are also allowed in most of the stores. There are doggie waste bags all over. We hang out there on the weekends a lot. Free concerts, etc, and you cannot beat it for socializing your dog! Jimmy didn't even flinch at the fireworks. |

Topic: Travel / Traveling with your pet I've used www.dogfriendly.com and can vouch for them. Also check out the cities where you are going. Where I live, for example San Francisco will allow dogs on Pier 39 and all around downtown, but Santa Cruz bans them from just about everywhere - which is interesting as I thought it would be the other way around. Monterrey and Carmel are very dog friendly as well. |

Topic: Breeds Club / Australian Shepherds aka Aussies Hi there! New to the board and the forums, but Jimmy is my second Aussie so I'm not new to the breed. And yes, 3M Adhesive is more like it - with both! Jimmy just wants to go everywhere with me - no matter where I'm going! Tucker was the same way. Although Jimmy has a much stronger herding instinct. He rounds up all the dogs at the dog park. He's also more agile than Tucker who was a bigger bones Aussie. I cannot believe how he can jump sometimes! |
