Topic: Breeds Club / Wrong Breed?

I know! That is one of my pet peeves because the breed should be respected as it's own breed as it is. I know Olivia looks like one and when people say she is, I just tell her she's a mutt above all.

Topic: Breeds Club / Wrong Breed?

I wanted to start a bit of a game with you guys. Name breeds that kind of look a like or may be mistaken for other breeds. I'll name a few. I'll start with the Doberman Pinscher. Mostly the black and tan colored dogs because I love those types.

No your Doberman Pinscher didn't shrink,

http://media-2.web.britannica.com/eb-media/41/8141-004-157ED3C9.jpg

maybe you got a German Pinscher.

http://www.gotpetsonline.com/pictures-gallery/dog-pictures-breeders-puppies-rescue/german-pinscher-pictures-breeders-puppies-rescue/pictures/german-pinscher-0009.jpg

or maybe those ears say Manchester Terrier.

http://www.breederretriever.com/photopost/data/594/medium/manchester_terrier.jpg

or a Black and Tan Coonhound because also of the all classic look.

http://dogtime.com/images/breeds/large/black-and-tan-coonhound.jpg

No, no, there is no such thing as a min Doberman Pinscher. Your dog is a Miniature Pinscher.

http://i148.photobucket.com/albums/s38/jwhittrn/advocacy/miniature_pinscher.jpg

or a Toy Manchester Terrier, because of the natural tail.

http://www.pedigreedpups.com/images/ToyManchesterT.jpg

or maybe just a Black/Tan Rat Terrier.

http://www.squirrelhuntinginfo.com/images/rat-terrier-3.jpg

Yeah, the dog may act like a little head strong but I'm pretty sure it's a Chihuahua.

*Yawn* by LouLou Is Here ❤.

Maybe your Doberman Pinscher/Shepard mix is really a Beauceron.

No Your Doberman didn't shrink THAT much. It's probably a Dachshund.

No, you haven't been feeding your Doberman too much. You got a Rottweiler!

and while you don't know, may never know, and really don't care, you are just a proud MUTT owner.

and you call her THE OLIVIA.

My Olivia.

Topic: Health, Diet And Vets / scaley doxie skin?

yeah, i'm with 7, what kind of food do you give him? He may have allergies. My Rocky (doxie mix) is BAD when it comes to fleas. He is way too sensitive so he is has to have flea medication. He gets just how you described but then again, that's the flea thing. I pray ACV on him too. Don't spray with open soars though, it hurts alot. I use baby shampoo to smooth out the skin. It worked for Olivia. She had dry skin due to allergies from cooked meat and most kibble.

Topic: General / Action to stop Chained Dogs across the USA

Audra, we are not here to pick on you and mean well, even "Luv". Even though the petition has been closed, we would like to stop this vicious cycle from continuing and we feel that your Goku could fall into that. We cannot save every dog from going being chained but we can stop at least one from even being considered to be chained or those already there.

I didn't want to say that he's not the man for you because that is not my place but I at least feel Goku's being is. He's a dog that need to be respected as a dog and as living creature. I of course would never allow such a think to have my pack be treated that way. If there is no respect among a pack, then there is none. Your boyfriend should love you for who you are and your pack of dogs.  I know you couldn't have any control over your uncle and have wished to do more, but try save your Goku from that vicious cycle now!

I want you to keep this in mind, every member in your pack should be physically healthy and mentally healthy, even if there are humans in the pack.

Please don't let your boyfriend do that to Goku. A dog will always tell you who negative energy and who is not. They know how to read any species better than people. Please try to change his mind and let him know that a chained dog is an anti-social dog who actually develops  many issues because they are taken away from their natural instict of being among a pack and being balance. They are social animals and humans are the only ones that make them anti-social, whether the human means to or not. Go to the websites that I have listed below to help him understand that dogs do not follow that type of leadership. I just want him to be a better person for you and Goku.

As for your other family, I do understand how you feel about it. I have a couple of relatives who unfortunately don't mind if their dogs and cats continue to breed every heat. If they do, they sell them without having being vaccinated, spayed/neutered. They live in a big open field that their dog can roam around and if they are lost, their lost for good. We always bring our dogs with us, in good health and spayed/neutered when we see them for family gatherings because they are always the center of attention to talk about. They KNOW how we feel about animals and they know they can't deny it. We are not mean or make them defensive but make them understand in a calm manner. To say it isn't our business, I say it is. It's our family and their selfishness is not what we are thinking about, it's about the unwanted animals they continue to bring in.

One must remember that whatever you use to create balance in your dog, one should not depend on the tool to do the work. One knows that if you use the tool wrong, the dog doesn't respond to it or ends up being condition to not listen to the tool at all.

What I mean is, it is not about the tool, it is the energy behind the tool that the dog listens to.

An energy that is balance because they follow balance. You could be using any tool, or all the in the world (leash, prong, halti, martingale, shock, choke collar),  but it your energy is unbalanced, forget it, a dog won't follow.

The right tool is always the right energy first.

Topic: General / Your first puppy or dog

Our first dogs we had were some of Mexico's dogs. Can't say which one was the first one. They are not with us anymore. I don't recall them because I was a little kid at the and my family is not too good of naming breeds.

My sister pointed out once at the dog park a dog that looked exactly like the one we had. It was a Samoyed.

My sister said the other one was a Chihuahua, very aggressive little dog.

The other one was a pitt bull mix. White with brown spots.

Then we had another one that by the looks of a photo, looked a lot like a Rhodesian Ridgeback. That was dad's right hand. It once jumped out of the car and never returned. Dad never could find the dog and found it weird that it hadn't returned home, as the dog knew the the streets pretty well. Someone had caught it and chained him up outside. One day when my dad was working, the dog smelled my dad's scent and broke out of its chained and jumped back into the car. I know, sounds like something from the movies but it's true.

My brother had a dog that died when he was a kid and it was to be his right hand dog. The dog always walked my brother to school and back to school. One day my brother went inside the classroom and mom and the dog always walked back home together. Well, the dog one day reacted and didn't see my brother that it took off and got hit by a car. My brother of course saw it all when he came out to see what was happened. The dog died right there and my brother cried so hard that he didn't want another dog ever again.

Our first dog since then has been Rocky who my brother brought home. Rocky is now a proud member of the Former Escape Artist. Then came the little aggressive Chihuahua, Olivia. Also, the other Chi, Panchita, white with brown spots.

Topic: Health, Diet And Vets / Real meat

I feed my dogs raw meat, and throw in the raw bones as well. My oldest dog can't get away from kibble, as much as I don't like it, he's going to eat the kibble that best suits the food he will eat in the wild. My middle dog really doesn't like kibble at all ever since her allergy reaction and refused the vet's food. I gave her raw meat and a raw meaty bone and never turned back. She'll eat a bit of kibble but rarely. My youngest just loves it all.

The kibble I feed them is EVO or Orijen. They don't like the kibble from Nature's Variety because it's too small but their Instinct one has pretty great ingredients and the Nature's Variety Raw Food Diet is great too. They like the Honest Kitchen to top it off.

Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / how to get my dog to walk next to me

I know this topic is old but what I do is I just pull the leash all the way at the top like they do in dog shows and dogs just lift their heads and become proud about themselves. The think about the harness is that it was designed to for pulling purposes. If your dog walks in front of you, not only is it a disrespect for you because he thinks of you as a follower but as well as a disrespect for other dogs that they see on their walks. Master the walk Cesar Millan way.

My Panchita is horrible at walking next to someone, even though she is so sweet, and messes it up for the rest of the pack. I just put the lead at the top (dog show way) and she walks beautifully. That little change made the different, and of course that energy of the one holding the leash, the leader.

Sign Petition: Stop Dog Chaining Across the U.S. Once And For All!

Target: U.S. State Representatives
Sponsored by: Care2

It's so hard to believe anyone could do it, but many helpless dogs spend their entire lives in "solitary confinement," trapped at the end of a chain or in a small pen. For a social pack animal, there's no crueler punishment.

Dogs are members of the family, not old bicycles, lawn orna ments or furry alarm systems. And chaining dogs is dangerous. Chained dogs are nearly three times more likely to attack than dogs not tethered, and children are most often the victims of these attacks.

More than 80 cities and two states already restrict chaining because of the suffering it causes, but dogs across the U.S. should be protected from this cruel practice. Tell your local state representative to introduce and/or support ordinances that ban or severely restrict dog-chaining!

deadline: Ongoing...
goal: 20,000

Topic: General / Rottweilers are bad and here's proof

Dogs react. They don't reason. If they feel a negative energy, uncertain energy, danger/threatened energy, aggressive, fearful energy or any type of unstable energy, they will react.

The reason the starter of this post (which hasn't visited MDS in a LONG time), was attacked at the shelter was because at the shelter there are a lot of very stressful dogs. They are taken away from a natural routine or from lack of knowledge from owners about the pack, and are rarely walked and start to develop issues. An exercise does big for them. Like I said before, when you have a powerful breed, you need to expect to follow with structure big time and be a leader 100%, not 90%.

Impossible is for the close minded.

oh man, the Dremel rocks! The great thing is that when you are getting close to the quick, it doesn't cut it at all! You get shorter and smoother nails. They are not rough at all. I bought a mini-mite dremel for my small dogs for $29 dollars on Amazon.

It's hard finiding a "free to good home" dog. For one, it attracts Class B Dealers (see my blog about this) . Also, the reason why people who are giving up their dog ask for a small adoption fee because they want to make sure their dog is going to the right person who is willing to pay for the dog. Meaning, money shouldn't really be an issue. Not saying to spend a 1,000 dollars a week on food but just enough to feed the dog. This is one of the rescues/organizations do this. So if you really want a dog, you are going to spend money whether getting a dog from a reputable breeder/oganization/rescue/shelter. Please try not to adopt from a backyard breeder.

I just laugh at ignoranceLaughing. How could someone even THINK of posting this topic. Oh wait, they didn't! I didn't even bother with reading the intro post because it's just ridiculus!

What it all comes down to is the lack of leadership from the human. It doesn't matter if it's your dog or not. If you don't act like a leader in front of a dog, then step aside because they need a real leader. Everyone knows that if you have a "power breed" you need to be the leader from A to Z, period.

I think you get the point. I saw the amazement when I was watching a documentary about wolves.

If you don't want to do this, that's fine too. Try finding some places where they clean dog's teeth witihout anesthesia. There are a lot of places in California where they do that so there must be some places in your area too.

Topic: Health, Diet And Vets / Hemorrhoids? Worms?

Here's how you Express a dogs anal glands from ehow.com:

Step 1: Prepare a bath for your dog. The secretions of the anal gland are highly unpleasant to smell, and the contents of the gland can spray out unexpectedly during expression. Expressing the anal glands in a tub allow you to perform this task and immediately control the mess and odor.

Step2: Locate the anal gland openings. Look at approximately 5 and 7 o'clock around the anus of the dog. They may be impossible or difficult to visualize.

Illustration of anal area

Step3: Feel for the glands with your thumb and forefinger beneath the skin under the anal gland openings. The glands are about the size of a kidney bean. They may be enlarged if the sacs are impacted or infected.

Step4: Press in and squeeze with your finger and thumb in an upward motion. The goal is to get the gland under your fingers on each side, and force the contents to the surface and out the opening. You should use firm pressure, but not so firm that you cause discomfort to the dog. This step can be done with a warm washcloth or paper towel covering the anus to prevent the secretions from spraying.

Step5: Repeat Step 4 until you no longer notice the greenish or brownish fluid being expressed.

Step6: Wash the anal area thoroughly. The secretions of the anal glands can be transferred to your furniture, clothing or pet's bedding if it remains on your pet's coat. It is imperative to remove all of the odor from the dog after expressing the glands.

If you are using the syringe, then put 0.67 ml for puppies and small dogs 22 pounds or less over 8 weeks old. I usually buy a large dog doses because I have two dogs, one small and one medium. It's the same ingredients just put in different amounts. Not much of a difference. I have a 14 pound dog who gets 0.67 ml.

Topic: Health, Diet And Vets / Puppy swollen from rabies shot

We had the same thing happened to my dog twice! She had a rabies shot once and it got bigger. My mom says that it also happens to people too and that it then goes down. We just put ice in a bag and put it on the bump and it went down. That was fine until she had another a different shot and a bump came afterwards. I put ice on it again and it did go down. We gave her beef paties like always and the bump came back. Same thing happened to every cooked meat she ate. It was weird because she had always eated cooked meat and kibble. We stopped feeding her cooked meat because I got a feeling she was getting allergic, among other signs. Well, the bump only went down a bit and when she ate kibble, same thing happened.

Anyway, we took her to the vet a couple of weeks later because it wasn't bothering her at all and the vet told her to bring her back in a couple of weeks. He gave her some shots so it could go be down a bit and it did. She also gave her special food for he allergies but she refused to eat kibble anymore. Now, we feed her raw food and her allergies are gone and so is the bump. Sure no hair really grows there but at least is kept it down with the change in food too. We've been feeding her raw food for a while and her system is a lot better so if anyone spoils her with table scraps, the bump doesn't come back anymore. She deals with it fine and no signs at all of allergies.

If your dog has food allergies, that bump grow bigger than it already is, so it could way to know if your dog has food allergies at least.

The vet told us that it was harmless and could be a cyst.

It took time for the family to really have their voices heard because they refused to believe this happened.
