Topic: Health, Diet And Vets / Danger List

What are some things that are poisonous to dogs? I just want to have a general list so I can know of the top of my head in case we encounter any. I know chocolate for sure and few plants. What else is there?

Topic: Fun / Where did you get your name?

Ike - after Ike, Kyle's lil adopted Canadian Brother, on South Park. I wanted a short name and Ike on South Park was cute and mischievous. After a while we realized that we have a lot of IKEA furniture so it's like "IKEA" minus the "A." LOL.

How do you add a badge? I clicked on the badges in the home page and it prompted me to login (which I am already) or create a new account.

Topic: Health, Diet And Vets / Pet Insurance

I was also reading this other forum and there is a real controversy with pet insurance. They say a lot of pet insurances will cover what they say they will cover, but once you become ill or have some sort of long term condition the insurance gets tricky with you. Anyways, it's still good to have insurance, but be AWARE. Here is one example of an incident from the other forum (I copied and pasted the post below). FYI: "The owner took out pet insurance for her 3 dogs... paid premiums faithfully on all three. Then one developed a heart problem.... ( note when I state dates).... the heart problem developed in the spring.. say April... many tests and not sure if surgery or not... but pricey vet bills....and insurance came thru as promised. The anniversary of policy was in AUGUST....owner continued paying premiums which basically 'renewed' policy. In the fall not long after anniversary date.. say Sept/Oct.. new problems developed.. more tests etc. Bills submitted to insurance company as always. Owner got notice from company the bills were NOT covered! She contacted them and questioned why since they HAD covered some of the same earlier in the year! Their answer was : This was "AN EXISTING CONDITION" and there is an EXCLUSION! in the policy. She said BUT you have already approved and paid earlier.... BUT ! this is their answer : AT ANNIVERSARY DATE.. it is like a "new-policy".....so though at spring it was NOT an existing condition so they paid...BUT after anniversary date of August, and tests etc in say sept/Oct it WAS NOW AN EXISTING CONDITION AND EXCLUDED! So... be sure to read fine print and be sure to ask questions as to chronic conditions and anniversaries etc."

Topic: Health, Diet And Vets / Pet Insurance

Ike doesn't have pet insurance yet but we signed him up for a health plan with Banfield Hospital which is located right next to Petsmart here in Maryland. We paid a yearly fee that covers all his shots, visits, and also neutering. In addition we get a slight discount on his prescriptions but not on flea and tick meds because they have to order them. I will look into getting pet insurance for him too. Maybe not for this year but after his current plan expires. Thanks for the info!
