Topic: General / Palin supports wolf killing! I'm sick and tired of the media dragging Palin through the dirt. She does a great job of being a wife and mother And the govenor of Alaska (did you SEE her approval rating?). People are looking for any excuse to mock her and make her look unable of being a good VP. Do you know why there are so many attacks on Palin? The media is run by liberals, and they see her as a threat. So, in defense, they come up with these outrageous notions (a good portion of them are not even true!) to try and convince the public that she is just some stupid unqualified hick from Alaska. Well, I'm not drinking the kool aid. |

Topic: General / Palin supports wolf killing! I've shot coyotes before when they have been attacking livestock. Also my husband and my father hunt for sport and I don't have any problem with it. I think this article is showing the situation in a very harsh and one sided view point. You have to consider the area she is from. Alaska is known for its wilderness and wildlife. Of course people are going to hunt for sport. It would be different if she was from California, I'm sure. Or maybe not. People would probably post an article about her attacking squirrels with a garden hose or something else just as riddiculous.
She has my vote.

Topic: Health, Diet And Vets / Treat Recipe' I made some treats for Panda a couple weeks a go that she went NUTS over. She would stand below the jar of treats and whine (she never does that with anything!) Plus, I just used stuff around the house...
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
1 pack of Matzo ball mix 1 cup creamy peanut butter (although crunchy would probably work too) 1 Tbsp garlic powder 1 egg
Mix Dry ingrediants in bowl. Add wet ingrediants, mix again. Roll out dough, and use some cute cookies cutters. Place on greased baking sheet. Bake for about 8 minutes. You'll know they are done if you lift one up, it should be golden brown on the bottom.
I know, peanut and garlic butter, uck! I got the idea from my friend who works at the bakery at Wag and Wash and said the peanut butter/garlic is all the doggies favorite. Seems to be true! |

Topic: Puppies / adolecent small pup potty problem I agree, puppy pads are confusing for dogs, it teaches them its okay to go in the house and then when you try to teach them otherwise they become very confused. They key for house training dogs for me has always been to keep them outside until they do go (and puppies need to go a lot!). Get them to run around outside, this usually kick starts the "urge to go". Also, don't forget to take up the food and water dishes a couple hours before bedtime. |

Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / how to get my dog to walk next to me I think our dog must have been born to be a sled dog, she is sooo strong. We she turned 4 months old it was all I could do to hang on to her. I tried many methods online, such as turning the other direction when your dog started to pull on the lead, stopping and making her sit when she started to pull, and giving a sharp tug on the leash when she started to pull...none of them worked. Walks were miserable because it took all of my strenght to hold on to the lead. I bought a "Gentle Leader" head harness and it works great. She will occasionally stop and rub her head on the ground, trying to get the head harness off, but other than that she does a great job. The only problem is, she goes back to her old habits when she isn't wearing it. I think I am going to have to try a choke chain to teach her to heel properly. I know some people are opposed to this, but if implemented properly in training it can be a very helpful device. You just have to remember its a quick (and gentle) tug and release, not constant pressure, or you will CHOKE your dog. I've raised dogs all my life and have never had this problem before, teaching the "heel" command I mean. She learned very quickly with everything else we have taught her, but this is certainly her weak spot. Good luck to you! |

Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / Anyone Else's Dog Not...(gross out warning) Having a boxer mix, the eye boogies can get pretty gross if not taken care of asap. She has allergies, so when she is outside for long periods of time its all I can do to keep her eyes clean. Just keep a box of tissues handy. |

Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / My lab wont listen..help I've heard that labs are one of the few breeds that respond to negative reinforcement. I would only use it as a last resort. Our puppy kept jumping up on the couch and we tried telling her no and then praising her when she sat on the floor, but she kept it up for quite awhile. The last time she did it she got a light swat, and a firm "NO!". Hasn't happend since. Had the same problem with her wanting to run off when we let her free from her lead. We bought a thin fifty foot rope and took her out to a field and worked with her buy "reeling" her in when we called her and then praising her profusely. |

Topic: Puppies / Barking outside Our puppy is about 4 months old and when we get home from work we sometimes put her on a chain outside so that she can enjoy some fresh air. However, whenever she is outside she constantly barks, barks, barks, barks, barks. I'm worried about it offending the neighboors. I try taking her for walks instead, but she gets scared when we go any farther than a block from home, and she just plants her feet like a mule. We want to fence in the yard someday, but its a BIG yard and we don't have the time or supplies to do so right now. Even if we did, I'm unsure if it would solve the problem. Is there anything I can do to get her to stop barking constantly when she is outside on her chain? |

Topic: Puppies / Shoe Fettish My puppie Panda LOVES shoes, slippers, socks... Her favorite thing to do is drag out every shoe from the bedroom closet one by one and bring it into the living room. She doesn't really chew on them, she'll just stick her face in the shoe and push it around the floor. Its hilarious. She also likes to sleep with them. My husband had this old pair of work boots that he just let her have because she was obsessed with them. Whenever I go in her room to take her out in the mornings, she is cuddled up this this old boot. Any one have any idea what it is that she might like about shoes? The only bad thing is when I wear slippers in the house (I have this fuzzy white pair that she absolutely covets) she attacks my feet. I tell her "NO" very firmly and she'll stop for a second, then before I know it she's back at it again. She know's she's only allowed to chew on her old boots. I try to keep the doors to the closet closed, but we live in a 100+ year old house and the doors don't close all the way. Suggestions? |

Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / pissing Acu - try raising his water dish, they sell raised pet food dishes at pet supply stores, or you could just set it on top of something. Its supposed to be better for them to eat and drink at that level anyways. |

Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / Being alone We just adopted a new puppy this weekend and she seems to be settling in very well. She is only 9 weeks old and is housebroken as far as I can tell (only having her for the past 30 or so hours). My husband and I both work full time and I'm worried about leaving her alone for the 9+ hours that we are both gone during the day. She was in her room all night last night and didn't have any accidents, but I hear that a puppy around two months old can only go for 3 hours in between potty breaks. We live in a rural area, so we don't have any one that can stop by and take her out in the middle of the day. My question is this: If we take her out twice in the morning (at six o'clock and then again at a quarter after seven) and leave plenty of fresh food and water, comfortable bedding, and a radio on, will she be okay? I'm not worried about her messing in the house, I'm just worried about her well - being. I want her to be as comfortable as possible, and if any one has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated! |

Topic: Breeds Club / Lab/boxer mix Just got a nine week old puppy, cross between a lab and a boxer (the lady we got her from called her a "boxador")...just wondering if any one else has this type of dog. I googled them online and they seem to be pretty popular. I would love to talk to someone that has another boxador, just to see what temperment and abilities are like for the breed. Also, she is a very LARGE puppy and we were trying to figure how tall she would be when full grown. |
