Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / Showing teeth

At least with my dogs it was a matter of time. I have a poodle, who was the youngest until my older dog dies last year. We then got two other dogs. He started out by being tense, and standoffish, showing teeth and growling . After time he has come to get to know one of the dogs very well, even sleeps with the pup - he is still getting used to the other dog, but I have faith that they will work it out in time. I figured I shouldnt get in the middle unless it gets violent - they both just needed to learn their boundries.

Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / BArking

I am sorry to hear you had the flu, I heard it has been particularly nasty this year. I hope you're doing better. As for your questions... My living situation... I live in a one bedroom apartment and work or go to school most hours of the day, with a few breaks in between Her background ... as far as I know she lived with her litter, and all the dogs who lived on the farm, in a dog home until I adopted her at 3 months. Her crate ... she has bones, a soft bed, toys, and I keep the oldies station playing When I leave... we have a walk before I leave, and as I put her in the crate I give her a treat. Her food bowls aren't down all the time, just the time that she eats - - since she eats all of her food in one fellswoop there is no danger of her eating at random times I don't run with her, since she has such a short snout she gets overheated quickly. Every day we have at least 2 long walks, and I try to go to the tennis courts to throw a ball around for her to chase/catch and return ( for about 20 min).

Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / BArking

I posted this in the puppy section, but no one has any advice thus far - maybe someone will see it here and have some advice -- My puppy has recently ( within the past two days) started an annoying barking habit. She never was a barker before, doesn’t bark at other dogs, and doesn’t bark at people. Unfortunately now when I leave a room she starts to bark, and rather loudly. She also starts to bark at her new bowls, the ones I got to remedy her bowl flipping habit. What can I do to get her to stop? I don’t want her to be barking so much my neighbors alert the management.

Topic: Puppies / Food Bowl issues

Thank you very much for the advice. Today I will be getting her new bowls. As far as her water, she only gets a small amount with meals, since she wont drink more than that . I don't know why she has more problems with potty accidents when she seemed to be getting a handle on it. We've also tried a gentle leader, but her snout is so short it doesnt work - she is on a harness now, so that seems to have cut things down, but she is still a puller.

Topic: Puppies / Food Bowl issues

So, now I am back, with more questions - you'd think I never had dogs before! Now that Bourbon is 5 months old she has formed some new habits, and other old ones are coming back. I'll make a list - if you have any suggestions let me know... 1. She tips over her food and water bowls. She tips her food bowl over to get the food on the ground. She will then eat it off the ground. She makes a horrible mess. She tips her water bowl over when she is done with it, then proceeds to carry it around, in her mouth. I've tried taking the bowls away as soon as she tips them, but she doesnt learn - Ive tried feeding her straight on the floor, but she refuses that, Ive tried leaving the tipped food on the floor until she ets it - but it takes her dayyys to get around to eating it. 2.. She has been peeing more and more in her cage and in the 'safe room' I have set up for her. For the past month or so she was able to hold it for 2+ hours, but now she pees numerous times in a two hour period. It seems like she doesn't care. I take her out every few hours, but I dont know what else to do. I am afraid she is just used to peeing and being near it - what can I do? 3. Bourbon is now 40lbs. She pulls relentlessly on her leash when we are out, she also gets so excited when she sees other people and cars. How do I get a better handle on walking her, keeping her attention as we walk, and teaching her to not pull, and to go where she needs to - not where she wants to? Thank you for your thoughts and ideas

Topic: Puppies / Cage pooping

she has had more stool accidents in her cage, but now we are more concerned with her latest issue. Yesterday she had blood in her stool, so I took her to the doctor. Her stool was nearly water. The doctor said she had a really severe case, no duh. We tested for giardia, but that test came out negetive - - good news was the worm that she had before this is all gone. The bad news is now that we don't know what it is that she has. She is on some antibiotics that aim at killing all bad bacteria and severe worm issues, as well as calm the colon. The doctor says that her stomach is more distended than it should be and that her intestines seem to be filled with mucousy build up, from the long duration of diahrreah she has had ( shes had it since I've had her). Since she has been faced with these issues I decided to get her a soft bed for her crate, the cover is washable - if she does have an accident. I just don't want her to be any more uncomfortable than she has to be. I've also purchased some treats that are vitamin fortified, for her to work on when she is in the cage - so she isn't getting too worked up - and is getting the nutrients she needs. She is becoming more expensive than I had forsaw, but I am commited to getting her as healthy as can be. I just hope we can finally get this worked out, 'cause she deserves to romp around without worry.

Topic: Puppies / Cage pooping

I know I post a lot of questions, but this puppy is a whole new story to me. I have had two standard poodles previous to this, and both were potty trained really very easily, and both were very obedient. My current puppy ( a bulldog/bull mastiff mix) keeps having trouble with her potty issues. The latest thing is pooping in her cage, and dancing in it. I am not sure what I can do about it. Also, she has really dry skin, so she is getting flakey. Currently she smells like her feces, but I don't know if I should wash her every time she dances in her stuff. The doctor told me that her skin can get really dry and the natural oils will keep getting washed away. To compound all of this, she has been having an intestinal worm deal, and I know she eats her food. So, when she does go in her cage, I know she is eating it - and it is creating an endless cycle.

Topic: Puppies / bringing me her food

She doesn't beg, she just likes to be on or near me when she eats her own food. I never eat at the same time she does,so she wont associate my food as like her own. I've tried pulling up her food, and every time I put it back down - during her next eating time - she still does the, " hey mom! heres my food ( drops it on me) I'm going to eat it on you" thing. A friend of mine suggests it could be seperation issue, where she needs to be beside me for as long as possible.

Topic: Puppies / bringing me her food

I have begun crate training my puppy, who will be 4 months on Jan 17. She gets to go out and do her business, come in play, and then go back to her crate. When its time to eat she gets to come out of her crate, and I take all of her toys out of the room - since she'd rather play with them than eat her food. Lately when we have eating time, she will pick up several pieces of food and bring it over to me, and drop them down - and eat them individually either in my lap or by my feet. Before you suggest I not be in the room, if I am not in the room she will poop or pee all over the room, so that isn't an option. I just kinda wanna know what this is about, why she does it, and if I need to stop her from doing it - if so, how?

Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / revenge defication

My new puppy has got the hang of going to the bathroom outside, and knows that she isn't to go to the bathroom in her cage at night. She gets to stay in the kitchen, with a gate infront of the door - all day, while I am here. I give her plenty of attention, but when I leave her "room" she ends up peeing and pooping. I've tried taking her out more often, but she ends up only going a little bit outside. As it is, I take her out almost hourly - sometimes every hour and a half. I have other things I need to do, in other parts of the house - so I cannot watch her all of the time, and I don't want to pen her up in her cage for hours on end. What can I do? I feel like she pees and poops to get my attention, since I must come in the room to clean it. I really need some help - my boyfriend has almost had his fill of this - and I am tired of my place smelling like dog poop.

Topic: Puppies / Peeing as she eats...

Its a puddle. Now she is having diahrea as well. I am thinking that the peeing and diahrea could be related, but also it could be that we are feeding her something that her breeder hadn't been, and training her with puppy treats that have oatmeal in them. If anyone has any ideas about what to do for the diahrea, that'd be a great help - since its new years the docs may not be open today. As far as the peeing goes, I've tried puppy pee pads, and she shreds them - and her previous owners had her in a dog barn, which had a door she could go out of whenever she needed to go - they never saw her pee as she ate.

Topic: Puppies / Peeing as she eats...

My puppy will be 4 months on the 17th of January. We just got her on the 29th, but already I've noticed something somewhat strange. None of the dogs I've had before have ever done this before. As she eats, she pees. Not every time, but enough times for me to notice and be somewhat concerned. I have always thought dogs tried to keep their pee away from their food. Can anyone tell me if I should be worried in the first place, what I should do to discourage this ( since saying no and moving her away isn't helping), if I should have her checked out? Thank you, Maggs
