I made the mistake of joining the posting that you flagged. But I have asked the person to remove me from their list. For everything we get to do on MyDogSpace for free that other site would block you from doing anything unless you were a VIP contributing member, I told her thanks but no thanks I am happy to stay with MyDogSpace and to please take me off her membership list. I am a Rottie owner and lover and I have two that are trained for Search and Rescue and HAVE SAVED several people. I also had a GSD bite me in the stomach, I didn’t blame the dog I blamed the owner that kept it chained to a tree. Punish the deed not the breed and if you look at each attack as you call them some are the fault of stupid owners and some are provoked by the small dog mentality, but most of the time that is not brought up in any news article. One time this lady reported that she was attacked by a Golden Retreiver and the news didn’t want to cover it so she called back and said she meant to say a Rottweiler and the news was on the spot in a minute. If it is Black they said it is a Rottweiler mix even though it could be a Lab Mix or a Dobie Mix or a hound mix. If it is short and stocky it is a Pit Mix to make the news.

I am asking here first before taking it to another forum since we all have Rotties. My problem is I just was given a Registered Rottie Female making my fourth Rottie. She is only a year old and not all that tall but she can clear a 5’4” fence. I watched her do it. She gets real low to the ground and then springs up against the wooden part of the fence at the corner and does a flip over the gate and it scared me because I could see how she could get caught with her collar on and hang herself. Does anyone have any suggestions???? I have another taller dog run but it is not very big so I could only put her in it and I am afraid she would continue to try to get out until she hurt herself. Is there a way to get her to stop this? She willingly went in with the 2 males and when I got home from work she was out with the Female if the bigger area. If she can jump this part of the fence the rest of the fence is the same height and I worry about her wanting to get to my goats or my cat that is outside. Right now she seems content in the back yard. Another problem I have is I have a dogging door so that first female Freedom can come and go in the house while I am at work. I was letting them all come and go until Gunar decided to continue to chew on things we was not suppose to so I put him and Justice out in one of the pens, then I got Shylo and find out she can jump the doggy gate I have separating the kitchen and Livingroom so I was putting her with the males but now know I can’t. I know that is alot to take in. I guess the only thing to do is make them all stay outside including Freedom since there is a carport they can get under in bad weather. But I still worry about Shylo jumping the fence to the outer property and getting to my goats or donkeys. How do you train a dog not to jump?

Yes Emily a lot more GSD’s and Goldens are responsible for dog bites than Rottweilers but they don’t make the paper or news. Please do not say a certain breed is a dangerous breed until you have your facts together. I have 3 Rottweilers and two are trained for Searcha and Rescue and one is in training. Actually more people get bitten by small dogs but they don’t do any damage but small dogs do bite more people than large dogs.

I am so very sorry for your loss. No it is not just you, Rotties do have a house filling presence. After living with a Rottie I could never have any other breed of dog so I am always fighting anything that has to do with banning certain breeds of dogs. I too want my next Rottie to be a puppy, I have trained my first two for Search and Rescue and I will do the same with the 3rd. Freedom never got to have any puppies so I also want her to be able to mother a puppy, I know she will do a great job. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers! I would hope that all animals will be there whether they had a human to wait for or not. I feel so sad for the animals the don’t know the love that my dogs get and when I read Craigslist and see all the people getting rid of their pets like it doesn’t even bother them and I always hope and pray they they do find love. So when I get to the Rainbow Bridge and if I see any animal that looks like they never got the love on earth I will help them over the Bridge to Heaven as well as my many animals that God sent to me over my lifetime.

Is there any way to watch his shows on the internet? I don’t get TV service because I don’t like what is on the lower priced levels of most cable or dish networks and I refuse to pay higher prices just to get Animal Planet and National Geo channel. I watch some good shows on cbs, abc and nbc .com full episodes but I can’t find Animal Planet and National Geo channels if I could I would be a happy camper!!!!

Are they intact? If they are you might have problems. Figure out which one you want to be the dominate dog and be sure to give strong signals which one is the top dog and always feed that dog first let that dog out the door first and so on, that way they know who is top dog. That is the way I do it and I have never had a fight.

There has just been a dog ordinance passed in San Antonio Texas that everyone needs to watch out for in their area because once these stupid things pass in one area they travel and all the idiots in government thinks, well if they passed it it has to be a good idea lets try it. If you dog is outside (and most are during the day while you are at work) (mine have a doggy door to come and go) and someone walks by and your dogs barks growls or snarls at someone if they don’t like you or want you to have to move all they have to do is say they fear for their life, they can say you have a vicious dog and then you will have to go before a board to defend your dog for doing what it is suppose to do while you are gone (deter someone from breaking into your house). They could if they want to confiscate your dog and put it in the shelter until the matter is cleared up and you would have to pay board on it while it is there and not to mention how it would be tramatized because of being there. You would have to take off from work to go to the board to defend your dog and if they do deem your dog a dangerous dog you would have to have purchase very expensive insurance to keep the dog or agree to have it put down. I am keeping my eyes and ears open and keeping in touch with Responsible Pet Owners Alliance so that if it comes to my area I will do all I can to fight it. But the problem is the idiots that were on the City Council even though there were plenty there against it they had already decided to vote for it and didn’t take into consideration anything anyone said that was against it. This is not Government by the people anymore but Government by a few!

A dog ordinance like this will spread like wild fire so watch out and try to defeat it if it comes to your area. Dogs never get a break. Now if a dog acts like a dog and is in its on yard but barks, growls or snarls at someone that someone if they don’t like dogs or if they don’t like you can now say they fear for their life and then your like is a mess. You have to go before a board to determine if your dog is dangerous and until it is resolved they could take your dog and put it in the shelter. Over 3,000 dogs were said to be dangerous last year and only 3 were determined to be dangerous but the other 2,997 we put in shelters and were tramatized and the owners were out a lot of money having to take off from work to go before the board several times. Now a dog can’t even do what it has always done and protect you and your property. They are giving dog haters the power to really mess with our lifes and our dogs lives. What happened to having your dog in a secure area? Now you will have to keep your dog in the house, but wait if somoene comes to the door and your dog starts barking and acting like a dog the person on the other side of the door will fear for their life and it could still happen. If someone is thinking of breaking into your house and they hear a dog all they have to do is say they were just walking by and they feared for their life and wait for your dog to be taken away then come back and break in without fear!!!!!?? What is this world coming to??

I did hear that in some parts of Canada they give you a discount on your insurance if you have a big dog because it deters crime. In the US you have trouble finding insurance that will let you have a large dog because it could bite someone and they could sue you. So go figure!

Wow where do you live? Here in Texas if it is even on your own property it is okay if your dog bites someone. If they break into your house and you shoot and kill them or your dog attacks them it is okay here in Texas!

I know in Texas if you are on your property you and your dog will not get into trouble. But I worry when I walk my dogs that they could say it was an unprovoked attack and then you have to go to court and defend your dogs and if you loose you could loose your dogs and they would be put down. The bad part is these bad people know this and they know that if they get bit they can sue you. I am glad you called the cops and now there is a record of them bothering you. I would also keep your dogs in the house and when they go out to potty go with them. Also look around the yard first to make sure something has not been thrown over the fence that could poison your dogs. These thugs don’t care about dog or human life and you need to report everything to the cops. I would also carry a cell phone with you so you can start dialing as soon as you see them act like you are talking to a friend and let the dispatcher hear what is going on while she sends a cop to the sceen. I work at a jail and this has happened here where the bad guys didn’t know the person was on the phone with dispatch and it was all recorded.

You have to also be careful, our lawmakers try to sneak laws in without us knowing about it. And toward the end of a session they don’t have to even tell anyone what law is going to be voted on. Responsible Pet Owners.com has helped us in Texas and other areas know what is about to be passed so keep your ear to the ground for any rumbling I am sure most law makers would love to ban all dogs and some animal rights people seem to be going in that area as well by trying to force everyone to get their dogs spayed or neutered at age 6 months or be fined heavy fines for not complying. I am tired to our government telling or trying to tell us what kind of dogs we can have. if I am a responsible dog owner I should be able to have any dog I want. I should not have to pay the price because a stupid human didn’t raise and train his dog to be a good citizen. Punish the Deed not the Breed. Tomorrow I have to drive to Austin because they are discussing a Dangerous Dog Ordinance and I need to make sure that just because it is a Rottie or a APBT that they don’t get put in the dangerous Dog group.

The Purpose of a Dog – from a 4 yr. old…

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-y ear old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife, Lisa, and their little boy, Shane, were all very attached to Belker and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn’t do anything for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told me they thought it would be good for the four-year old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker’s family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. The little boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any difficulty or confusion

We sat together for a while after Belker’s death, wondering aloud about the hard fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.

Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, “I know why.”

Startled, we all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned me. I’d never heard a more comforting explanation.

He said, “People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life – like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right?” The four-year-old continued, “Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay as long.”

Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly.

Usually if it doesn’t fit in the mail box they will put it on the other side of the fence and usually people don’t try to come over the gate simply because I have Rottweilers even though they would not hurt them it is nice that people just don’t show up at my door unannounced. LOL!
