"This show is featuring the truth of puppymills as investigated by Lisa Ling. Many people have hoped Oprah would expose this atrocity for years, finally, it's being done. This will be a fabulous opportunity to put a dent in the education of the unknowing public on puppymills and buying cute little puppies from pet shops.

Here is the link to read up on this upcoming show this Friday April 4. There are many comments already expressed on this website you might be interested in reading as well as contributing your own comment.

Please crosspost this to anyone you can, let's spread the education. Ask your friends to tell other friends, this is a golden opportunity to educate the public.

Make the Sexual Abuse of Animals Illegal in Florida While 34 states make bestiality a crime, the sexual abuse of animals remains legal in Florida. The sexual abuse of animals is not only cruel but also an indicator of other violent and sexually deviant crimes. A study published in 2002 found that 96% of juveniles who had engaged in sex with nonhuman animals also admitted to sex offenses against humans. Because bestiality is legal in Florida, prosecutors are unable to address this cruelty. Fortunately, legislation (S.B. 744/H.B. 1227) has been introduced to make the sexual abuse of animals a crime in Florida. Please contact your state senator, Anthony Hill, and state representative, Charles McBurney, to express your support for S.B. 744/H.B. 1227. TAKE ACTION Please make a brief, polite phone call to Representative McBurney at (850) 488-4171 and Senator Hill at (850) 487-5024 to urge support for legislation to make the sexual abuse of animals illegal. When making your call, you will likely speak to a staff member who will pass your message along to your legislator. Remember to be polite and professional, and leave your name and address so it is clear that you are a constituent. You can say: "Hello, my name is [your name] and I am calling from [your town] to ask [legislator's name] to support S.B. 744/H.B. 1227 to make the sexual abuse of animals illegal in Florida. 34 states make this a crime and Florida needs to join them. Thank you." After making your calls, please send a follow-up email to your legislators in support of legislation to make the sexual abuse of animals a crime in Florida. ^^ great post Tina^^ i knew nothing of petstores and puppy mills til not too long ago... Belle is from a breeder, but i don't consider him reputable, i got lucky with her, but got no guarantees, shots, spay, etc... i wish i had done more research prior, don't get me wrong, i LOVE Belle to pieces, but there are a lot of things i should have asked for, and looked for... I paid 850.00 for her, which i thought was a good price for a yorkie, (many of them going for upwards of 1000) but i neglected to find out what i needed from the breeder, therefore i got the puppy without a health guarantee, without her shots, at 9 weeks (yorkshire terrier club of america says they should not go home til 12 weeks+) i have her AKC reg. not that it matters, i know that they can't KNOW size but they can estimate, and Belle grew to 8lbs (i love her size) but i was told she was going to be between 3 and 5lbs, i did get a beautiful pup... but i do not reccommend this breeder, i think i got lucky, Belle is super healthy and has a great personality... sorry this is so long... but i thought i'd share my experience

DOG BED: any soft, clean surface, such as the white bedspread in the guest room or the newly upholstered couch in the living room. DROOL: Is what you do when your persons have food and you don't. To do this properly you must sit as close as you can and look sad and let the drool fall to the floor, or better yet, on their laps. SNIFF: A social custom to use when you greet other dogs. Place your nose as close as you can to the other dog s rear end and inhale deeply, repeat several times until your person makes you stop. GARBAGE CAN: A container which your neighbors put out once a week to test your ingenuity. You must stand on your hind legs and try to push the lid off with your nose. If you do it right you are rewarded with margarine wrappers to shred, beef bones to consume and moldy crusts of bread. BICYCLES: Two-wheeled exercise machines, invented for dogs to control body fat. To get maximum aerobic benefit, you must hide behind a bush and dash out, bark loudly and run alongside for a few yards; the person then swerves and falls into the bushes, and you prance away. DEAFNESS: This is a malady which affects dogs when their person wants them in and they want to stay out. Symptoms include staring blankly at the person, then running in the opposite direction, or lying down. THUNDER: This is a signal that the world is coming to an end. Humans remain amazingly calm during thunderstorms, so it is necessary to warn them of the danger by trembling uncontrollably, panting, rolling your eyes wildly, and following at their heels. WASTEBASKET: This is a dog toy filled with paper, envelopes, and old candy wrapper. When you get bored, turn over the basket and strew the papers all over the house until your person comes home SOFAS: Are to dogs like napkins are to people. After eating it is polite to run up and down the front of the sofa and wipe your whiskers clean. BATH: This is a process by which the humans drench the floor, walls and themselves. You can help by shaking vigorously and frequently. LEAN: Every good dogs's response to the command "Sit !", especially if your person is dressed for an evening out. Incredibly effective before black-tie events. BUMP: The best way to get your human's attention when they are drinking a fresh cup of coffee or tea. it is not ideal, but we had to do that too when i first got belle i was gone from about 11am- 7pm... but they adjust, now i'm with her a lot more... what i'd say is keep her in her room with her bed/food/toys on one site and a potty pad on the other, just be ready for potty training to take longer than usual, and def. give lots of attention when you get home, behavior issues can also happen, Belle came out pretty good, the only issue i have is the barking... but we're working on it... Good luck!! and congrats on the new addition
