Topic: Events / Dog Friendly Places to Visit

There's a place by me that's a cyber cafe/bar and there are always dogs there... I just don't want my dogs to go because of the smoke.

But he won't stay in his crate... he escapes! Someone posted earlier that dogs love their "dens" so I was thinking that maybe I could put an old blanket over the back of his kennel to help with the distractions and make that space more personal and private. The only drawback would be him eating the blanket...

Topic: Media / pet massacre***** WARNING**EXTREMELY GRUSOME

TRUJILLO ALTO, Puerto Rico — Back roads, gorges and garbage dumps on this tropical island are littered with the decaying carcasses of dogs and cats. An Associated Press investigation reveals why: possibly thousands of unwanted animals have been tossed off bridges, buried alive and otherwise inhumanely disposed of by taxpayer-financed animal control programs. My dog LOVES spicy... I've tried red pepper, curry pepper, hot and fiery pepper, tabasco sauce... he just licks his lips and says "Thanks Mom! Now my food tastes even better!"

So how do you feel about training colars? I've heard there are some that will zap the dog when they get close to the trash... that would certainly be able to train him while I'm not there...

No joke! I was just saying that to my best friend... what's so terrible about my house that he would want to leave? I don't know how to train him... keeping him in his kennel isn't helping train him and it just gets him excited when we get home and let him out. He actually knocked the air out of me jumping on my stomach/chest this weekend. Not to mention my whole house smells like dog pee! And I can't find it! I bought that Urine Gone stuff with the black light but I need to pick up some batteries... I love my dog SO MUCH... I love just being with him and the way he plays and cuddles and looks to us for guidance, but when he's left to his own devices he becomes the tazmanian devil!

Well crap... Buddy's new kennel was working out SO WELL until today when daddy came home and found Buddy gone! Not just from his kennel, from the whole house! He found him down the street. Apparently he escaped out of a cracked bedroom window. The screen is still up, just torn. I'm afraid to put him back in his cage for fear he'll hurt himself...

That sounds like what my aunt and uncle had... two questions, did the urine-b-gone work and what is a belly band??

That's fine with me... as long as he doesn't "lift" in my house! I'm serious about the diaper thing... little squirts are the worst because you don't know where they are! Funny story... my aunt and uncle have a little pomeranian (Max) and they had the same problem with the smell. They brought in a professional carpet cleaner who turned a black light on in the living room (or something like that) and all the dog pee showed up... apparently it was everywhere! Thus they bought their little guy some britches. Not a bad idea.

If the dog was fixed at an early age and never learned to lift his leg and doesn't have the 'boy parts'... is he still prone to mark territory with little squirts at random? I haven't seen him do it and outside he pees like a girl, but there's still something amis... no puddles, just the smell. Its at the point now where even daddy is lighting candles. lol

Thanks Tina... I was kinda thinking that... Buddy's so strong he could hurt himself pretty bad and not even realize he's doing it... I think I'll go get a gentle leader... it was funny watching daddy try to control buddy... he did a worse job than me and he's much bigger! I think the key for us is constant repitition and keeping it uniform.

My friends dad looped Buddy's leash (hooked to his collar first) around his stomach. He said it was similar to what they do to bull's in bull riding except Buddy doesn't have any balls so it didn't hurt him... it didn't even get near his privates actually... but he didn't tug. I haven't tried it with him yet, I was just wondering what your thoughts were on bull tying the dog?

That's one thing I'm thankful for and where we really lucked out with Buddy...he's not a night time prowler... I can leave him out at night and he'll either sleep in his bed or crawl up and cuddle with me. :-) Daddy caught Buddy sniffing the trash today and he told him not to in a stearn voice. This is good... Buddy can't learn right from wrong if he's never told what is wrong. Now he knows... no excuse! lol

Oh yea, and we give him LOTS of love and attention when he goes potty outside... you should see my big man reduced to a 'baby talker'... never thought poop would get such a reaction. :-)

Another update... and its a good one! We finally went and picked up the new kennel on Monday and he has been so much better! He's going #1 AND #2 as soon as he goes outside and not inside. He hasn't tried to escape (at least there are no signs of a struggle) and he just plays with his kong all day. My fiance goes home every day to take him out and I think Buddy is finally starting to realize we're not going to abandon him. WOO HOO!!

he gets breakfast and dinner but my fiance will take him out first thing in the morning and he'll poop... then I'll take him out right before I got to work and he'll poop, then my man comes home at 1:00 pm for lunch and there will be two piles of poop! He DID get into the trash and ate some food from in there but that was last week... it should have left his system by now.

a small update... it appears the humans are being trained, not the other way around... I've taken to doing the dishes every morning, picking up the floor, vacuuming, moving the trash can and the dog food container and spraying bitter apple (which doesn't work). Of course he doesn't get into anything... there's nothing for him to get into! lol He still poops on his favorite spot... its like you said, he's punishing us for leaving. It would be great if someone would invent something that would give his bum a little shock every time he pooped/peed in the house. lol

I heard they weren't allowing dogs to enter the fire relief shelter and that the parking lot of full of dogs with their owners who refused to leave their pets. They should have let the dogs in. I'll pass this info around! Thanks!
