Topic: Breeds Club / Mastiff I just noticed that there is a bullmastiff forum, but no Mastiff forum. Well, we can't have that, can we. All mastiffs are invited, including bullmastiffs to post anything mastiff specific. |

Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / Peeing on my bed We had a similar problem. Lily pee'd on her bed (so not as bad as yours). It was the same sort of situation. She'd be out, and then bam the moment she came in, she pee'd on her bed. So we took her bed away for a few months, and her only soft spot to lie down was in her crate. She's not allowed on any furniture. When we gave her back her bed, no problem. |

Topic: Support And Suggestions / Flags Tina's idea is a really good one. I got so mad after being flagged on a sewing board for supposedly posting an inappropriate link that I quit the board because there was no appeal process and I felt slammed, put down, misunderstood, etc etc. I'm not nearly as active here, but I'd hate for the same thing to happen. Extraneous Information: I posted a link to the FatSew group at Flickr. It's a group where people (women mostly) post pictures of clothing we have sewn for fat people (ourselves or someone else). Someone left the FatSew group, went trolling around Flickr, and found a picture of bare boobies. I got flagged for linking to pornography. When I asked why only the link to FatSew was inappropriate, unlike all the other links to Flickr, I was told that I had posted a link to inapproriate images (clothing for fat women); end of discussion, no appeal, nothing. This was a community that I had participated in for years, with 1000s of posts and other information given by me to the site. I'm still mad about it. Finally, anyone who thinks they can go surfing on Flickr or any other publicly hosted image site and not find bare boobies is a moron. |

Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / Sirius Dog Training There are no stupid questions. Nothing in Life is Free is the idea that the dog has to work for everything they get. For example, Lily is very cute. If she were a human baby, I'd give her lovin's just for being cute. If I follow that instinct and treat her as a dog, I'd give her lovin's and a cookie. Supposedly, in the dog mind, this means that I'm am worshiping the dog, and Lily is the alpha dog. So instead of just giving her stuff, like lovin's and cookies, inside, outside, throw the ball, dinner, etc, I make Lily work for it. She must sit and wait. If she barks, whines, or scratches to come in, forget it. If she sits quietly and waits, she gets to come in. When she greets me, if she jumps on me, I leave. If she sits and waits for me to pay attention to her, she gets lots of lovin's. The Sirius training method uses NILIF and behavior shaping/positive reinforcement to train the dogs. I highly recommend the link and the DVD. I first learned about NILIF at the link below, but I find this particular interpretation to be overkill on a dog that is NOT fearful aggressive. http://www.goof.com/~pmurphy/NILIF.html link to NILIF |

Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / Sirius Dog Training Has anyone else tried this? They use the Nothing in Life is Free methodology. It's been fantastic. Lily is only 5 months old, and she can hold a down stay. Plus, after a few repetitions, she learned to sit (instead of jumping on) someone when she meets them. Now, we still need practice, but it's amazing how quickly and easily she is learning it. |

Topic: Support And Suggestions / Problems with posting to blog When I try to make an entry in Lily’s blog, I can’t find the submit button. I’m using Opera, and I’d be willing to use a different browser, but I don’t have any problems in the forum. I get a black band across the bottom with a white text box. For the forums, the text box is wide and short and the orange cancel button and blue submit button are to the right. For the blog, the text box is tall and skinny, and I don’t see the cancel or submit buttons. Tina: ~ try just hitting enter & see what happens. If you want me to try for you….I’ll email you some info! tina Neefer:It doesn’t work to hit enter, and I tried tabbing to see if the focus would set to the submit key but was unsuccessful. |

Topic: Support And Suggestions / Likes, Dislikes, Wants I just got my first e-mail (aka private message), and I want to thank you for the big delete button that is very obvious that shows up below the e-mail text. On other boards, I have a terrible time finding the delete button, usually because it is only present on the page that lists all the e-mails. |

Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / The truth about Cats and Dogs Give it up. Is the cat an adult? If so, I doubt there is anything you can do. You can make the cat more comfortable by always making sure that the cat has an escape route AND that both the dog and the cat know in no uncertain terms that the dog is NEVER allowed to chase the cat or snap at the cat. In our house, the cats could do whatever they pleased to the dogs, and the dogs had to take it w/o a complaint/snap/chasing. But we have English mastiffs, so that might be a little extreme for owners whose pets are more equal in size. |

Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / There's No Excuse .... I'm a big dog kinda gal. My dear departed Henrey was 175 pounds. Lily probably won't get to be that big. Having large dogs, no doubt, colors my view, but I gotta say that it doesn't matter if it's a retractable or a regular leash. Diligence and control are the keys. I can never take it for granted that my dogs won't be able to yank my leash out of my hand, or maybe I should say that it isn't the leash that is controling the dog. |

Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / There's No Excuse .... and not to keep shots up-to-date I also disagree with the flexi lead stuff. I think that is breed/temperment specific. |

Topic: General / I really want to see what people think about this... I have never met a pit bull that wasn't a sweetheart. I have known rotties that were a little standoffish, but that's the worst that I can say about them. Rotties are great dogs. I echo Tina's comment. Oh, and the problem isn't the breed or the species, it's the owners. Any owner that is not containing or supervising and controlling his or her animal at all times is the problem. |

Topic: Fun / Where did you get your name? The breeder named me Lilly, and no matter how hard she tried, my mommy could not convince big sis and big bro to change my name to anything else. Mommy spells it Lily and says that I am a flower. |
