Topic: Health, Diet And Vets / Switching foods My bags of Canidae are marked with the manufacturing & expiration date. I've never purchased a bag that was more than a month old. Canidae can be difficult to locate for some people, but I'm really lucky to have a place that delivers a 40lb. bag every other Friday to my house (metropetservices.com). It's great...no lugging a bag around the store to the car. I did the research on costs, etc. when deciding what to put my guys on. Freshness, cost and ingredients wise...Canidae fit my lifestyle/wallet best. Now, I really would rather feed a raw diet (I used to - that went when the 2nd income aka husband went), but with 4 big dogs it just doesn't fit in my finances right now. Tina sent me a sample of her food and let me tell you - my guys went nuts over it. If I could afford it - I would have my guys on that food. Whatever you decide on...I sure hope the gas problem goes away soon and you enjoyed your beer! |

Topic: Events / first north dallas dog scout meeting Yes, mini camp is in Texas. The full (not a mini camp) summer camp is in Michigan. I've never been to that one and hope to one of these summers. We are going to Disney World for summer 2008 so the earliest I'd be able to make it is 2009 since I don't have that much vacation from work. I hope to meet you at one of our meetings soon! |

Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / Pooping contest... Argh! Febreeze isn't going to help. You need an enzyme based stain and odor remover - Simple Solution or OUT! Stain and Odor removers are the best. I highly recommend them. Hey, if you decide to come to our Dog Scout swim party this weekend let me know. I'll bring you some you can have - I have some that were damaged in shipment...the boxes are crap, but the product is perfect. |

Topic: Events / first north dallas dog scout meeting Hi LeeDogs, I sent you an email about the Fort Worth troop (#119). We are the largest most active troop in the nation (well, at least I believe this is still the case). I hope you can come join us. We are having our annual dog swim party at a country club in Fort Worth this weekend. I sent you my leaders email addy so you can get more info. We are really busy getting ready for our mini camp in less than 2 weeks so if they don't respond right away - be patient. |

Topic: Media / Ellen DeGeneres in the Doghouse I think this is such a sad situtation and is giving rescue a bad name. Those women with the rescue need to get some common sense and return the dog. I just hate it when a place uses policy and not common sense when placing dogs. |

Topic: Health, Diet And Vets / Microchip - Danger? All mine have been micro chipped. I'd rather take the chance of a tumor and have a better chance of getting them back should they get away from me. I'm with you Astrid - it would be nice if the news would give a complete story. |

Topic: Health, Diet And Vets / HELP!!! You can see round worms too. I found them in my puppy's poop and promptly rushed it off to the vet to find out it was round worms. A dose of meds and the next day...all the DEAD worms were expelled. It was nasty, but they are gone now. I would suggest a trip to the vet to be sure all worms are discovered and treated right away. |

Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / What to do, in case..... Try an air horn if your dogs get in a fight. Works wonders. Banner and Justice used to fight every once in a while and one blow of the air horn and it was enough to get them to stop. Also, it's great for getting that human kid out of bed in the mornings when they are especially stubborn. :) |

Topic: Health, Diet And Vets / 6 year old Golden ate a corncob I hope you baby passes that fast. This is how my Golden Banner died. He ate a corn cob that he found in the yard - probably a squirrel dropped it since there is no access to any trash cans back there. Banner had surgery, but it was too late- too much damage had already been done. Your vet should have offered you a barium series before surgery...that seems strange they gave you surgery or wait as your only options. Keep us posted! |

Topic: Health, Diet And Vets / PET INSURANCE Wow CarlaGenender - that is completely opposite of my experience. I guess my vet services are much lower here in Texas. My vet actually charged me less than VPI allowed. I told my vet to charge me more, but he wouldn't. :) |

Topic: Health, Diet And Vets / PET INSURANCE I had VPI when Banner was young and I LOVED it! I never had a problem and unfortunately I had to use it often with him. They paid every claim without any problems what so ever. The only reason I stopped the coverage was because my husband had lost his job and we had to cut expenses. I would think you will have a good outcome once a person with a brain has a chance to review your case. But, if not - is there some kind of insurance regulation that would be able to step in and investigate? I sure hope I'm right about your outcome. Please keep us posted. |

Topic: Advice, Training And Tips / Gentle Leader?? My friend who owns dogstuff.com gave me a button that reads "No, it's not a muzzle". She sells GL's in her store and they came with one of her orders. I would have to agree this is a draw back when you are out in public. People ALWAYS make a comment about a muzzle. Now, I have the button. LOL! |

Topic: Fun / Where did you get your name? Banner - registered name is "Star Spangled Banner". He was born on July 4, 2000. His litter had a patriotic theme. I held a contest on one of my email lists - the winner got a $50 donation to rescue of their choice. Star Spangled Banner won. Justice - registered name is "Let Freedom Reign". He was born 5 days before 9/11. The name fit the feeling of the nation. Faith - came with her name. She was a rescue from Forney, Texas. Rescue named their dogs with the first letter of the city they were rescued from. Her name has stayed the same. Libby - registered name is "Liberty Star". I wanted a patriotic name for her and she was sent to me to help heal my broken heart from losing Banner. I feel like she is a part of Banner (she is so similar to him) so therefore, the name Star in her registered name. |
