I was born into a kennel that produced Irish Setters for hunting.  But I had only one eye and some other genetic problems, so they sent me away to a shelter.

My wonderful Dad (Melvin) rescued me and gave me the bestest home ever!  His son (Jim) came to live with us when Dad got kinda sick, so now I have two wonderful fellers to play with and love on.  Dad & Boy take great care of me.

I have a big fenced in yard to run in.  Boy and I take long walks everyday.  I know almost everybody in the neighborhood, and I like each and every one of them.  About every other day, Boy and I take Dad out for a short walk too.

Boy used to work on the radio station here, and he talked about me on the radio a lot - so everybody in town knows all about me!

My best friend Jazzy Jazz the Yellow Lab lives next door and I get to visit with her almost every day.  I have a lot of nice toys, and I know all of their names - Mr. Bunny, Mr. Squirrel, Alvin the Chipmunk, Christmas Duck, Dan Quail, Mr. Green Man, and Ropety-Rope.

My foster sister DANNI is in her new forever home.  Boy says that she will be very happy there and have a 2-legged Dad & Mom & boy all of her own as well as a pretty red-headed sister MAGGIE.  I will miss her, but I'm glad she came to share love and play with us for a while.

Boy brought home a new foster brother for me to play with.  His name is HUNTER and he is an Irish Red & White Setter boy.  He was a lot of fun and we played together a lot on his first day here.  He has been adopted out to a new forever home as well.

Our next foster boy was CODIE JOE.  He is a very handsome lad. His family had to give him up when they lost their home.  CODIE is a happy, bouncy boy who is just full of joy and life.  He has gone on to a special good forever family.  His "Going Home" pawty was the event of the season here on MDS.

The next foster boy was BOO!  I'm not trying to scare you, his name really is BOO.  He was a five-year old Irish Setter boy who came to us with heartworm and a nasty yeast infection in both ears and was a scrawny 60 lbs.  He was not happy at all.  We gave him lots of loving and vet care.  He turned into a very handsome, happy, 80 lbs. of fine Irish Setter lad.  He now lives on the east side of Michigan with his very own Dad and Boy.  BOO wants to remind all you puppers need to make sure that your family loves you enough to get you on a heartworm preventive!

Our next foster was a sweet little girl named PEPPER.  In addition to a food allergy that caused her family to surrender her because her special food is too expensive, she had also been hit by a car.  She was suffering from a dislocated hip that maked it so she couldn't use her right hind leg.  Our friends at Save Our Setters stepped up and obtained an FHO surgery that fixed her up just dandy, with the help of a lot of donations from our MDS pals!  I have lots of extra special lovins for all of you (and so does PEPPER).  PEPPER is now in a wonderful forever home in central MI.

Our next foster girl was 2-year old Lilly.  Lilly was an outdoor dog for her whole life before she came to us.  She didn't even know her own name.  But we will taught her lots of good stuff, and gave her lots of love and got her all ready for her special good forever home in GA.

Special Note:  We tried, but it just hasn't worked out, so we will no longer be accepting "pal requests" from those who "want a mate to breed" or who otherwise advocate backyard breeding.

We are sorry if that offends you, but it surely points out why we should not be "pals."  Those who are actively working to improve their breed are always welcome - but they won't be advertising "want a mate to breed" on MDS.

When you have seen some of the things I have seen dogs put through, you understand.  And if you don't understand - please educate yourself on the issues.  Your desire to have a litter of puppies does not match up to the horrors that you may cause.

We will continue to work to rehome & rescue the results of your selfish, uninformed behavior, but we are asking you to please stop making the job harder.  Think about what will become of the pups you want to breed!  If you think about it, you will know that somebody else will most likely end up euthanizing them.  Please, DON'T DO IT!

PLEASE SPAY/NEUTER YOUR PETS!
