amy o'fay is a little girl who's never lost her fear of the world.  she was born in the woods under an abandoned trailer, and someone brought her to the shelter along with her littermates and her mommy.  most of the littermates died quickly of malnutrition, but amy and two others lived.  the two others were adopted really fast, and the mother of the litter was adopted.  somehow, though, amy seemed to have come out of the womb terrified of everything.  despite being a favorite of the shelter staff who treated her 'extra special' by bringing her in to the office every day and taking her home with them on the weekends, she never stopped being afraid of everything: people, the outside, other dogs, sounds, new surroundings . . .    amy has lived with us over seven years now and she's proud to be "in charge of home, in charge outside, and our watchdog---go get 'em!!!"   our other two dogs have to be crated while i'm at work part-time, and amy's sooo proud to be left "in charge."   she still has the only toy she would play with at the shelter, and she's never played with it in front of us ^o^   she's also never played with another toy, and she doesn't play any games with people or dogs.   she feels safe in our house, safe with my husband and me, and safe in the back yard.   those are the ONLY things she feels safe about.  amy is such a special little girl, and we love her with all our hearts.  we wish our efforts over the years had brought her out of her shell, but they haven't.  she lets us love on her, and she's excited for a few minutes when we come home from work and praise her, but those are her only ways of showing emotion.  she has a beautiful puppy face, she's black with caramel, and she weighs about 50 pounds.   her legs are looong, and she runs like the wind.   she sticks by our side, and we'll love her forever  = )
