My Dogs

Birthday: July 9, 2005
Breed: Toy Poodle
Size: Toy
Home Date: July 9, 2005
Fancy is an odd dog. Her history is some what unsettling. I think of her as a rescue dog, because we did rescue her in many ways. Both her parents were toy poodles (8-10 lbs.), her mother was abused & thought to be unable of getting pregnant. She finally did, but she only had one puppy, & that was Fancy. I don't remember how the breeder we got her from came about owning her, but she was not the one w/ the mom, or dad. We went to her to breed our other toy poodle, Audrey, who now belongs to my aunt in Spokane, WA. The breeder had 25 poodles, of all sizes, & colors running around in her house. You could tell that the dogs owned the house, mostly because of the rank smell which we were pleasantly greeted by upon walking up the driveway.
Fancy, however, was the only white poodle puppy there. She was timid, repressed, & picked on by the other dogs. She was ill looking, she didn't make any sounds, walked slow, ran from the food bowl w/ food in her mouth, walked very slow, & kind of hunched over. Her hair was a mess, because the breeder decided to cut her hair. It took a few visits for Audrey to even get used to the idea of uhh having sex w/ another dog, & we eventually had to leave her there for a few days to get the job done. In exchange the breeder let us take Fancy home for a couple days. No change in behavior, she was as lethargic as before, & that's when I knew that I had to help her. You just can't turn a blind eye to an animal being neglected.
We talked the breeder into letting us keep her a couple more days to see how she & audrey got on. Audrey, being the resentful, & unloving dog that she is, decided that she didn't like Fancy. & my dad being the semi-absent minded person he is gave audrey & fancy a corn cob to nibble on. Fancy went in for a go, & audrey bit her on the head. She punctured one of the main arteries that flows blood to little babes brain. Fancy bled a lot, my parents rushed her to the emergency room. She was on the brink of death. She got a transfusion of blood from a great dane. It took her a week to recover, & there was 48 hrs where I hardly left her side. She became a different dog completely. She was for the first time ALIVE, I don't mean heart beating, still breathing, I mean chasing squirrels, loving squeak toys, excited to run around the back yard. She all of a sudden loved cuddling, being pet, being loved, & she loved us back too. I have a stronger connection w/ her than I do w/ most humans. She is one of the most loyal companions I have/will ever encounter.
She is a very large part of why I race home from being away, & waking up in the middle of the night. She is amazing, trusting, loving, lovable, hilarious, & adorable to the highest degree.
She has the spirit of a big dog, & the body of a lap dog.
I have never met a dog w/ as much personality & quirky personality traits as her.
