Dog Blog: Why My Dog is Pink

My dog Sephi and I went to Dogtober Fest in Jackson County, Missouri this Sunday.  My other dog Maya did not get to go for two reasons, one of these reasons being because she was pink.  That's right, pink.  How did she get this way?  Well, it's kind of a funny story.  It starts with the first reason Maya did not get to go to Dogtober Fest.  That reason was because Maya hurt my arm.  She is a one year old lab and still very hyper and very hard to handle when we go on walks.  I just recently bought a harness-type thing that comes under her legs and therefore should help to keep her from pulling very hard.  It works when Maya walks ahead and begins to pull but it doesn't work when she bolts ahead.  She So when we went walking through Founders Park Saturday, she darted ahead several times and made my arm very sore.

Now on to the second reason and why Maya was pink.  Founders Park has this really cool fountain that kids and dogs love to play in when the weather is nice.  Being a lab, Maya especially loves to play in this water fountain.  However, when we got there Saturday, we found that the water in this fountain was pink for Breast Cancer Awareness.  No, I did not allow Maya to play in the pink water because I figured the dye in the water would not be good for her.  Well, apparently Maya had other ideas.  In a split second when I was switching the leash to my not-so-sore arm, Maya bolted again and ran straight into the pink-watered fountain.  I yelled for her and ran after her until my throat was hoarse and dry, all to no avail.  By the time I got to her, she was soaked with pink water.  By the time we got home her coat was dry but she was still pink!

She doesn't seem to have been harmed by it so all-in-all this is just a funny story that I thought I would share.  I hope you enjoyed it!  

Maya is a bit hard to handle at times which has earned her the nickname, "Trouble".  But these difficult times have mostly turned into funny stories that bring a smile to my face.  And all-in-all, she is really turning out to be a great dog.  I wouldn't give up "Trouble" for anything in else in the world.
