The Dogs Next Door
Those big ole’ dogs on the other side of the fence just won’t leave us alone when we go out in our OWN backyard. I’m gonna show you a picture of one of them barking at me while I was out. I think he might want to play but mom says “NO”! Guess I’d better listen! They are big but so are my pals Stella and Amber! They are nice to me and we play when we get the chance to. Some big dogs are very gentle, just slobber a lot and I get all wet! I just wish that the guy next door would fix the fence so we don’t have to be afraid to go out in our own yard. Luv you all! Well, we have to put these photos in PhotoBucket then we can upload to mds. (Takes so long!)
This is the picture of one of the big dogs in that yard. He (or she) doesn’t bark when mom talks to him, but he sure barks at me when I bark at him. Don’t know if he’d hurt me or not but it’s fun to bark at him. He isn’t the one that ate through those old boards last week. I think that one is the “bad” dog. Mom probably won’t let me “play” with any of them. There is a GSD named Nikita in the yard too and we don’t know if she’s good or bad. Don’t really want to find out. As you can see, I’m trying to tell that dog to go away and leave us alone!! lol,lol

Blog Barks
Holly, mama forgot one thing to tell your mama, don't YELL quiet at the dog. YELLING will make the dog think you are joining in on the barking. If you use a command, like quiet, do it at a normal voice, a little deeper than usual, but don't SHOUT.

Yes Shannon, treats attract. So, if Holly's mom tosses them over the fence, AWAY from the hole, they'd (hopefully) go after the treats (losing interest in protecting their yard).
BTW, a wagging tail does not always mean a dog is friendly. Tina

Hey Holly, hope your mom has her 'air horn' at the ready, in case he comes over the fence again. Mama says this is a good link for your mama to read. Good luck, keep us posted on how things go. Hugzzz, Monty

I have to say I agree with everybody here except one person. Tina, treats attract. So I'm not sure if I'd use treats in this situation.
Now it's time for my two cents. Riley LOVES BIG DOGS. However, I only let him go near them if they (and he) are under control, or everybody involved knows them well and likes them. And if it's a pitbull (or something that will jump on me to get to my dog), I study them real hard! And if their tails are wagging, and they have a HUGE smile on their face, then I'm not so scared.

I agree - fix the hole and also make sure the rest of the fence is in good shape and that there is no sign of digging activity under the fence. Better safe than sorry. You are awfully brave though.

Instinctually, a dog in a yard is going to protect it, along with anything in it (pack-mate, toy or master). So even if it's the most friendly dog (of any size), he can get nasty, from behind a fence.
There is a gorgeous BMD on our park. From behind his fence he is rather terrifying, outside he is a teddy bear.
Like ShepGal suggested, better to get a $2 piece of wood and close the hole!! tina

holly,
Please be careful. If you have to bark, bark real low like a inside bark. I bark at bigger dogs but keep my distance.

Boy Holly you are so brave. It does look like you have the situation in control, but still please be careful. I agree with Rocko, maybe your parents can block up the hole on your side.

You got to be careful Holly! Maybe you should get mom or dad to block the hole until the guy next door fixes it. We don't want you getting hurt!
Woof! Rocko and Gang!

Yeah, Holly, make sure you stay safe. I'm BIG and really nice to little dogs. And I don't slobber, either!
Very neat slobberless kisses,
Astrid
