Calling old dogs...
GODIG stands for Good Old Dogs Interest Group, and I've decided to start it for dogs who are in their second decade (and maybe even third!)
Our life expectancy has risen dramatically in the last few decades, as a result of better nutrition and safer conditions. But that means we don't have much experience, as a species, with being old but not dottering.
Now it's true that this summer my mom started lifting me up to the pickup truck seat. But it isn't so much that jumping up there got too hard, it was squeezing between the shifter and the seat to scramble up from under the steering wheel. (It was also easier for her than cleaning out the floor on the passenger side.)
Other than that, the vet says I'm in great shape. My back is strong and straight, I still enjoy sniffing and rooting, and when I run back to the house after a poop, it's almost as quickly as it used to be.
My mom says she's noticed some small changes. She can't figure out whether my hearing is a little less acute or that I think my age entitles me to ignore more things. (Heh, heh, which do you all think? I can hear "cat food" even when it's whispered a hundred yards away.)
So if you've celebrated your 10th birthday, whether last week, last year, or even last century, let's bark! I'm going to see if Butch (whose dad is dawg1943) will be the co-alpha.
PS: It's too bad the people group for seniors has such a great sounding name. AARP! AARP! Well, maybe it's not too bad. But I couldn't figure any other excuse for barking AARP! AARP!
How to join GODIG
You don't need an invitation, just bark below! Sorry if this has confused anybody. We just need to hear from dogs that they want to join (that way, nobody can sign up a puppy as a prank!)
After you bark, you get added to the GODIG member list, which also has links to each member's profile so it's easier to bark at each other. Then we send out a bark to the other members so they know you're a new GODIG-er.
More info?
This covers most of it, but we do have the GODIG faqs and links which might be useful.
