We're not home yet
Hi pals,
We still stay at our godmother's. The entire neighborhood of our real house has no power for a week already. The temeperature is in high 80s near 90s and mom doesn't want us to be hot dogs. But mom said she has nothing to complain because we're not flooded or injured. There are thousands of others in Houston/Galveston area need immediate help. We may not have internet access as frequent as usual, but thanks for your prayer and flowers/treats. We love you! Triple Es
We survived Ike
Hi pals, Ike made a landfall in SE TX coastal area in early Saturday morning. It was a scary night for us. The wind howled all night and it got stronger and stronger. It sounds like some wild animal coming to get us! The trees around our house were shaking like crazy. Echo and Evan were next to mom, Echo in bed with her and Evan next to her in crate, but Etta decided to take shelter between toilet and the wall in master bathroom! We slept in the center room of the house, just in case the big tree in our backyard fall. The next morning we found some minor damages on the roof and tree branches everywhere in our yards, but we're all okay. Our immediate neighbor was not that lucky. A tornado touch-down pulled half of their roof away! Mom and dad chose this neighborhood because they like the old-fashioned houses and mature trees around, now they realize how dangerous it can be when all these old trees are up-rooted, splited to half, threw across the fence,or crashed right on the roof. Mom said it really looks like 9/11 in our city. We have no electricity, very low pressured water, and most places won't open until next Wednesday or later. Mom and dad just went to their friends to take shower and to check e-mails. Looks like we won't be able to write you guys for a while. Our entire city needs time to recover and it can be a long process. However we're thankful that there's no injury in our family We stick togehter no matter what happened!
Evacuation is our vacation
We got to evacuate this weekend due to Hurricane Gustav. Yes the word evacuation means vacation, because we can stay at our godmother's house all weekend long! When dad and mom were busy moving stuff to their cars, we're running around with excitement! This was Evan Wylie's first time to stay over at Godmother's. Echo and I kept telling him how fun that place is, with all the gourmet meals and bunches of toys... Mom and dad said we got more stuff than theirs in the trunks. Anyway, mom and godmother almost were in tears when they saw Evan Wylie wrestled and played tug-a-war with Echo. After almost four months, he finally started to play! He's still on medication with other possible treatment coming, but mom said that's okay. Dad took several pictures of Evan's playing and they'll put them on his photo page soon. Anyway, we're back home and had a wonderful weekend. Thank god Gustav did not make it here, and thank god Evan Wylie's on the process of becoming a "real dog!"
Evan's Progress Report
Mom said it's time to give me a progress report even school has not started yet. She said I definately would be promoted to next grade level (Guess we're kind of home schooling?) I got an A on table manner 101 class because I have learned not to bite people's finger anymore when taking food from them. Usually mom gave food to whoever sits quiet the first, so I tried my best after watching Echo and Etta a few times. I also got an A on following house rules and basic comments. I learned "down" after "sit", and now am working on "stay." However mom said that grooming's the part that made me an honor roll student. I lay by mom quietly after our night walk so she can wipe my paws, trim my hair or do other stuff to make me look handsome and feel good. Mom would sing songs and stroke me for a while. Sometimes I even felt asleep. My hair has became shinning and all the sun damage parts are gone.
Seperation is hard for me, still. I simply block the front door so mom cannot sneak out anywhere. However I saw her digging all Ceaser Millan's books out to review how to be a strong pack leader. So when storm comes and I turn to a rabbit, mom still does what she needs to do without giving me hugs or kisses (I know she really wants to do so!) In order to reduce my anxiety level, I'm on minor dosage of medicine, and we have started to take long walk in the morning before it gets too hot. It's very difficult for mom to get up early but we have seen good result on me after a week. Mom hopes to soon see good result on her waist as well.
It's not easy to be an urban pet. But we have the whole summer to work on my lessons and it proved I'm a gifted student! We hope everything's going to be on the right track when mom returns to work in mid August. Mom and dad are SO PROUD of me that I got a new dog house for gift! Not Echo's old crate anymore! Yippy!
Three things about our human
Our mom loves: (1) pampering us (2) summertime (3) traveling (especially with dogs)
Mom has taken Echo and Etta to day and weekend trips. With Evan joining our family, well, she's thinking of a bigger car(Probably not until the gas price goes down--if it ever goes down.)
Our dad loves: (1) sleeping (2) playing with us (3) woodworking
Dad must inherit his woodworking talent from his family. He has very limited training but made most of our furniture by himeself. He was a Karate champion but he said it was long long time ago. We don't care because that's not something we can join. (One time when he tried to show off it, Echo wanted to participate and ended up taking his sock away from his foot.
)
How about your human?
Evan's update
Evan has gradually adjusted himself to our daily routine. We don't crate him during the day anymore. Since he tipped over the hanging water can a few time in his crate and soaked his bandages, mom decided to put him in hallway by using a baby gate to seperat him and Etta. He now doesn't even need that gate. He just chooses a quiet spot in the house and take it easy. No accident at all.
We are still working on his "table manners". He can poke his head under our arms on dinner table to smell our plate, get into Echo's bowl when he's eating (he doesn't dare to do it with Etta!), etc. He apparently had limited social experience with other dogs. He eats almost anything and everything at anytime! He even chews all his medicine like treats.
We walk him on a seperate leash due to his bandage on right front leg. He walks a bit slower than Echo but mom plans to use coupler leash for them when he's fully recovered from his torn nail. We just went to change his bandage yesterday and are expecting to get rid of that completely next week.
Grooming Evan is a challenge for mom. He has no problem on touching, rubbing, cleaning in wet towel, but doesn't like comb or scissors on him. When untangled his hair we tried not to touch the sun damaged parts otherwise he jumped up and walked away. However with his double coat in Southern TX at this time of the year, he needs to get used some kind of grooming. We're taking baby steps to trim his hair on his paws and legs first. He won't be able to take a real bath until his nail is recovered. He watched Echo played water the other day but showed no desire to join the fun.
In general Evan is not a high maintenance dog but has his hold outs. All we need is time! We will have the entire summer to get to know him more when mom's school is over. We are VERY GRATEFUL to have him!
Evan (Wylie) the new family member
Evan has formally beccame our family member since last week. He is trying hard to make adjustment here! He likes both mom and dad but shows no interest to play with Echo. He has learned to "respect" Etta as the Alpha. Due to his minor procedure and medication, he still eats and drinks a lot and gets skittish sometimes. But he is such a sweet boy who wants to be by our side all the time. Check out his photos and we'll keep posting more!
Wylie is here!
Wylie is here for five day sleepover! Mom does not want to put any "official" note on MDS until he "officially" become our Evan. He apparently needs time to adjust to our house, plus his role between playful Echo and bossy Etta. But he truly is a SWEETHEART! Check the last photo on Etta's section, don't Echo and Wylie look like twins?
home remedy?
Hi pals, thank you for all your beautiful Easter cards and mails. Mom has been sick for the entire week. She thought she got rid of something and then she got something else! That's why we only had little play time and have not been on MDS a lot. But mom's sickness was not allergy. Echo and Dad got the worst allergy. Anybody has home remedy for doggie resiratory allergy? Mom prefers natural stuff than medicine. Echo's allergy gradually turns to year long now.Aussie rocks!
Call for all Aussie pals! People said we're one of the smartest breed. But they only know we're good at Frisbees, flyballs, swimming and agelity. Can you name some other sports?
