Toby
Male, 14 years, 10 months old.
Birthday: February 21, 1994
Breed: Yorkshire Terrier
Size: Small
"Me & Molly rule our house!"

Nickname: Toby
Home Date: February 21, 1994

Toby is our little boy who was born to Susie who has crossed the rainbow bridge in August/2006. Susie had one litter of six puppies. Susie was a large Yorkie, ten pounds, so her litter she was from was not given papers. Papers, smapers. We don't care. I just wanted a smaller dog. She had six puppies and one died during delivery. She had been mated w/a 5 pound, papered Yorkie but only for the size, not the papers. Toby was the biggest of the puppies but the most submissive of them. He was the only boy. We kept Toby and Millie. Molly was adopted by my parents and returned to the fold after my parents deaths.  Barkley was adopted by our good friends the Gleasons and Muffy went to a nurse that I worked w/who really wanted a Yorkie. All for free. I can't take money for love. Barkley passed before her mother. No reason why. Millie passed @ 8 years, 4 months after major surgery to remove her middle ear which had continuous infections from year one and treatment also. She died of having a suseptible immune system after such a short time & she was diagnosed w/Hyperlydic (I think)....anemia...her healthy red blood cells were killing her healthy red blood cells. She only lived <36 hours after her diagnosis.

So, now it's Toby & Molly....

Birthday: February 21, 1994
Breed: Yorkshire Terrier
Size: Small
"I'll let you know when I want attention!"

Nickname: Molly
Home Date: February 21, 1994

Molly came special delivery via her Mom, Susie, who went over the rainbow bridge in August of 2006. My parents had adopted Molly and when they died she came back into the fold. She has always preferred my husband, John, over even my parents. She is fickle w/her attention but will let us know when she needs/wants it, although sometimes we just have to grab her up to give lovees. She actually likes them more w/age but would never admit to it. She has had such a fun life. She went wherever my parents went and then when Mom died, Dad moved to the apartments in the center of town and Molly & Dad got around a lot. Once Dad no longer drove, he had the scooter ride w/a basket in the front for Molly. Dad would drive that through the bank drive through so Molly could get a goodie from the teller. Molly ate whatever my parents/father ate. She had gleaming white teeth and they had never been cleaned. After Dad died, Molly returned to our fold and our expensive dog food, Wellness, and started getting her teeth cleaned professionally. Within one year her teeth were a mess! All covered w/plaque and I now believe that my father was right when he said to leave certain things alone w/dogs as they have survived for years w/o the assistance of vets. Molly has a few teeth left @ this point but for the first half of her life she had the best teeth of all our dogs. Less than a year of the "prescribed" dog food and teeth cleaning, her teeth were shot. We do not clean their teeth any longer.

Susie was such a love! The day she walked in the door @ six weeks old, Buster, our mixed Yorkie/Dutch Smoushound went over to say hi & Susie went nuts on him and Buster just stepped back and made a gutteral noise like, darn, look what we have now! Well, Susie did "think" that she ruled the roost but Peanut actually did.

Susie was always full of @#$% & vinegar and spoke to you & played until her hearts desire. She was a bundle of love! She had one litter of puppies on February 21, 1994. She had six puppies!!! One died as it was in the birth canal too long. She tried for three hours w/me to save that puppy. When I attempted to remove the puppy that we couldn't revive, Susie got right up from feeding the other five and sat up and gently took the dead puppy back. The breeder that we had used for Susie to have a litter told me that wasn't possible. I said, well it is & it's happening. She suggested that we put an entire new bed down when Susie went out & put her puppies in it & bury the dead one once she came into the new surroundings. Well, as I let her in the house from the backyard my husband was going out the front door to bury the little puppy that didn't make it in our garden. Susie went down to her area w/the new set up and her five babies and kept looking for about five minutes for the missing pup. Her brood was demanding food so she then let it go. She knew though that something was missing and she didn't like it.

Susie did have an episode of hypokalcemia when they become so depleted of calcium that she was just lying spread eagle on the floor. We got her right to the vet who gave her IV therapy and she was fine but couldn't feed her puppie for a couple of days. It was my fault. The vet had told me she could get this & on my own w/o asking I started giving her a Tums once a day. Because I was stupid enough to do that, her body didn't know enough to conserve her calcium because I had been giving it to her. I should have let mother nature do her thing instead of trying to prevent something that might never had happened. She was fine after treatement but I spent 48 to 72 hours feeding her puppies round the clock. I took three days off from work. You would think that the puppies would have considered me that alpha dog since I delivered all but Molly and fed them all these 48-72 hours, but nooooooooooo. The alpha dog was my husband, John. So unfair!!!

Susie had a fun life w/a fenced yard until we left western Massachusetts in June of 2002. She then traveled the country w/us to Florida, Washington state and then to Los Angeles. She traveled through many more states than people get to see. She's an angel and I miss her every single day. She brought so much happiness to so many w/her one litter. We have Toby and Molly still. Molly made my parents so happy in their last years and now she's back w/us making us happy w/her brother, Toby. Millie died while we were in Florida. I already wrote of that on Toby or Molly's page.

In the end we had to put Susie down. It's such a hard call but when it's time you know it. We were w/her and we now have her ashes as we do Millies also. We have had to put two dogs down and it's incredibly tough but it's really much easier when you stay w/them when it's happening. It's peaceful. R.I.P. Susie. We love your forever & we'll see you again.

Millie was one of Susies puppies and Millie was the absolute, cutest dog ever! She didn't have the Yorkie ears that stand up but hers looked like cute little pigtails. She was totally a girly girl dog. Very feminine.

Millie loved her crate and would growl when the other dogs went in & out of it. Very funny. When we went boating the dogs would always swim to shore. She'd look @ my husband as she took her time and know he would pick her up and carry her the rest of the way. When Millie & I went out together on the boat, every half hour or so she would come to the back end of the boat to have me give her a dip in the water to cool off and she'd swim a little. She was a doll. She had my heart as they all do.

Our time w/Millie was cut way too short @ the age of eight. In March of 2002 the doctors said that she had to have her middle ears removed because it was actually painful for her the way it was. She had had the same fungal infection from about one year of age until they said it couldn't be treated any longer. I didn't even know they had ENT docs for dogs. If I had I would have gone sooner. So, she had the surgery and seemed to heal fine. We moved from Massachusetts in June of 2002 to Florida and she had a yellow look to her lower lip one morning and we rushed her to Sarasota's animal hospital. She was diagnosed w/Hyperlitic (sp) anemia. The healthy red blood cells kill the healthy red blood cells. She was being treated and received a blood transfusion but it didn't help.  We came in on a Sunday morning when the vet had told us we could visit and she was gone. We were devastated. He guessed she's died around 3AM. I told him, "no, it was 2:30AM" At 2:30AM my light next to my bed fell over on me and I had an awful feeling but I had a feeling she was saying good-bye. And she was. It devastated us. I can't even discuss it more.

September 12, 1982 - November 10, 1996

I love dogs and I have had many my entire life. I have to say that Peanut was my favorite dog of all time! I had gone to the Phoenix, AZ pet shelter w/my friend Audrey Dutton Smith who was looking for her missing cat. Well, being a dog person, I went left into the dog area while Audrey went right to look for her cat. The first cage had my little peanut, a nine to ten pound mixed Norfolk Terrier in a cage w/four or five other dogs, all large. This was on a Friday & she wasn't available for adoption until the following Monday. I had put my hand in her cage and she gently licked my finger and I was sold! I went home & told my husband, ex now, that he had to be there @ the opening on Monday morning and I explained exactly what she looked like and where she was. She was home waiting for me when I got home from work. She was MY dog from day one.

I quickly realized that not only was she a stray when the shelter picked her up but had obviously been beaten by a man and w/a magazine or newspaper. Everytime my husband, a serious dog lover came in the room she would pee for two years. Also, I couldn't read a magazine or newspaper around her for about two years as she would pee. Who would do such a thing to anyone/anything??? What is wrong w/people???? She eventually calmed down and even was fine w/my ex-husband. She was always fine w/my sons though.

I had to have major surgery about two months after we brought her home and she never left my side, ever. Even if she wasn't in my lap she was at my feet. She didn't need a leash as she would always walk w/you unless a squirrel came across her path. She had it out for them. Don't know why.

Millie, Susies little baby would only pay homage to Peanut. She would lick Peanuts teeth as Peanut growled @ her. I know that Peanut loved all the babies Susie had though. She was a great aunt. She wasn't into all the games the other dogs did but she had her own fun. She was much older than the rest.

When Peanut was slowing down she had arthritis. The vet had me give her a baby aspirin a day and she did fine for years w/that. Then, she had to have one aspirin twice a day and it wasn't holding her pain at bay. At a certain point you know when to say when. You have to think of your loving dog not your own selfish needs to keep them alive. We brought her in together, my present husband and I and stayed w/her & told her we loved her while she was medicated and passed. She is buried in our backyard in Massachusetts. If I had ever thought I wasn't going out of that house in a pine box or body bag I would have had all of my dogs ashes. But, I didn't know.

I miss my little Peanut every single day & will see her again someday.

January 12, 1991 - November 2, 1997

Buster, Bussy, was a mix breed of Yorkshire Terrier/Dutch Smoushound. He weighed 22 pounds, is that small or medium,  and had the coloring of the Yorkie but the disposition of the Dutch Smoushound. He was a great dog! He escaped a few times and one time when he did he as hit by a car. He ended up @ the shelter where we had bought him from and his colon had gone through his perforated diaphragm & things weren't looking so good for Buster. His name be the previous owners that gave him up was Double Trouble. It was probably appropriate but if you leave a puppy outside all the time on a leash they are going to want to be w/you. They are pack animals. They are part of a family. Buster just wanted to be loved. And he was w/us.

When I saw him after his car accident, they didn't hold out much hope for my guy. I went over to him w/my husband. I stuck my finger in near his mouth and he licked my finger. I thought, he's got the fight to make it! They did the very risky surgery and he did survive!!! He never got lose again & I don't know if it was because he'd had enough or we watched him better. When we bought our home in 1992, the first thing we did was put a linked fence in, six feet above ground and sunk in one full foot. Buster still tried to dig his way outta there but I figured it he got out then good luck to him. He never quite got through the fenced area. Not like he did not try though. And was Buster a joy & an love. We had to nail our garbage can in our kitchen to the wall and keep the plastic inside of the can. If any of it was outside, Buster would rip it all out.

Buster did have a fun life but did want to be the Alpha dog in the pack we had. Peanut ruled until November of 1996. Buster had his one year of power. I would wake up every morning w/Bussy to the left of me w/his back to me & we would spoon when I awoke. I loved it. He did too.

One morning I got up and Buster was outside in the yard just standing there in the rain. He didn't come in a few moments before w/the other dogs. I went out to him & his mouth was just whiter than white. He wouldn't let me pick him up but came up to the house very slowly. We brought him right to the vet who kept him. They wouldn't let me be w/him while they put his IV in. He looked terrfied as they took him away. They told us it would be several hours of testing ahead of him and to go home & they would call us. They called us in one hour and it looked as though his heart was in trouble and his kidneys. They called a couple of moments later to say we should put him down. I told them we were on our way & wanted to be w/him when he died. They agreed. When we arrived fifteen minutes later he was already gone. It was horrible. All of his systems just shut down. I have thought it was because of his horrible car accident that he was lucky to live through @ all & was on borrowed time all that time. I love Buster so much and miss him. He died a few months after my beloved mother so I never felt as though I grieved for him as I did the others. I was so busy taking care of my father after my mother passed. Buster left an indelible mark on my heard and my life and I look forward to seeing him again.
