My Blog Entry
Mistakes and Judgement
I have started this blog so many times and deleted it. This time I am not deleting! I heard enough Judgmental People on MDS, express their opinions in a extremely harsh way that I can not stop myself any more! I joined MDS because I thought it would be fun to share ideas and experiences with other dog lovers.I thought dog lovers would understand me better than joe-shmo on the street. I thought forums would be a place to start. I was shocked at how people jumped to judgment based on a few sentences posted by people they had never conversed with before! So I looked FORUM up in the dictionary.Boy, oh BOY, was my face red. The very first definition was...a judicial assembly.Well let me tell you that is exactly what was happening there. I decided, if I was to post anything in forums it would be under general information, you know stuff about MDS itself.Yet like a moth to a bug-zapper I keep going back, I can't help myself. I keep hoping for an intelligent discussion, I haven't found one yet!
We humans are ...well... only human, and as our dogs will tell anyone who will listen we ALL make mistakes. Anybody who thinks they haven't must not have lived a very interesting life.
I personally believe you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar (of course poop trumps them both). When you sing to pigs all you get is a bunch of OINKS in return. That a discussion takes at least 2 people who are willing to listen to one another. There is a reason for 2 ears and one mouth,of course humans type with 10 fingers and one brain.
I guess what I am hoping for is that in the future when I find myself drawn into the "FORUM" I find a little more discourse, perhaps even a healthy debate. I would like to see people act with a cool head not react with madness. I would like to see people act with a functioning brain not one spitting out sound bites. In other words EDUCATE NOT REPUDIATE!
All of us have differant stories to tell, let us with more expiereance use them to help those with less.
When we run acrost someone who we really find to be stupid let us keep our argument more in the style of Sun Tzu's "The Art of War" rathr than stylized after a gangland brawl. Also when we run acrost someone who has made a MISTAKE let us react out of conpassion because "There but for the grace of GOD go I"!...I was taught this since I can rember. Doroty[ma & g-ma]

Monty, just said it all!
Just don't cast the first stone. Jumping to judgement is a big mistake and those who do are not any better than the person they are judging. If you have an opinion about what someone is saying make sure you are reading correctly and not jumping to conclusions.
How many times have all of us written an email or a story, and read it after the fact and it isn't what you meant to say. I don't know how many times I've hit send and think OMG did I just write that, that's not how I meant that to sound.
I also tend to stay out of the forums too unless I am looking for advise on a specific thing, then I type in that exact thing and do a search. But I rarely visit them.

Just my two cents again,
Please don't mistake being a judgmental jerk with not sugar-coating the truth for someone. Some people don't want to hear anything but that their way is the right way. The truth is hard to stomach. Sometimes people (like myself) have a hard time putting things gently, sugar-coated. Sometimes you have to just say it the way it is. Sometimes people need to hear harshness. It isn't fun to be wrong, for anyone! When you do something one way "your whole life" -- you tend to think you are a master at it even if it isn't correct. It takes a bigger person to take the truth for what it is and learn from your mistakes. To make a change for the better. To listen to what someone (who may know more than you) has to say and actually take something positive from that. You can only educate those that are willing to learn...
I agree with you that everyone should at least re-read what you write before you hit that submit button. I am not trying to argue your point either, I just think sometimes people get too defensive.

Astrid last saying rings true.
During one 'heated argument' that I was involved in, when this site was new, Astrid came on with 'I can hear the joy being sucked out of MDS' or something very close to that effect.I realized then and there, that the Rottie has a cool head, and was right.
I personally don't even visit the forums anymore.
Tuckers mom, Chance&Holly, Astrid, Patricia's Tessa, Olie, and some of the others...you see their daily barks full of humor, making you chuckle, keeping an eye out for the sick pups and letting others know so that they can send healing words and get well messages (Tuckers mom started this email chain, and it has progressed to forum posts). mygrammy who is trying to educate us all on the plight of the 'Pit Bulls Breeds"...look for these people on the site...they are what I think is the real meaning behind the scenes.
There are others I haven't mentioned...but you see them every day when you log on...They spend precious time making beautiful barks for us all to enjoy! They have no 'axe to grind' nor a 'personal agenda'...just want to make us all find a place to giggle and a shoulder to lean on when we have a sick pup, or just lost one!

We are all trying to navigate through life. Some of us do it in heavy handed ways. I try to temper my own 'passion' with compassion. I've lived long enough to know that probably the best thing we can all do is take what works for us in all situations and leave the rest.

WE are in total agreence with you. We all have personal opinions but that does not mean our opinion is right. You can never truely understand a person till you walk a mile in their shoes, the same goes for dogs. I personally know what it is like for people to pass judgment on me everytime I fill out a job application. They don't know the truth. They don't know who I am. The world is full of overly opinionated people that push away those that push away the nonjudgmental.

Do not make the mistake of treating your dogs like humans or they will treat you like dogs." - Martha Scott If dogs could talk, perhaps we would find it as hard to get along with them as we do with people.
I like dogs better [than people]. They give you unconditional love. They either lick your face or bite you, but you always know where they're coming from. With people, you never know which ones will bite. The difference between dogs and men is that you know where dogs sleep at night. ~ Greg Louganis

BOL!!! I am for u LibertyJustice, i got difficulty in logging into ur the other page.. i just came back fm my repair of computer. Well to ur issue raise, my mum do agreed whatever u hv said. At other doggie site she also got all these hoomans on behalf doggies(she already treated herself A DOG named Spottie) pointing finger + even nasty remarks. Mum tried to ignored at times but if she had the chance she wuld take her time to explain or clarify them. All Doggies Website are for all our owners to share our stories or whatever article which is good, comforting, resources, etc.... if somepawdy's owner is not yappy abt that Mum always give them her gmail to let them check on her whether she is writing of her own but she just meant to SHARING!!! So everypawdy's owner shuld be like u to know what the meaning of 'Forum' This is why my mummy also said the more she look at me she wuld rather be A DOG!!!
Nobody can fully understand the meaning of love unless he's owned a dog. A dog can show you more honest affection with a flick of his tail than a man can gather through a lifetime of handshakes.
