Breed: American Staffordshire Terrier
Size: Medium
From: West Warwick animal shelter
Home Date: February 5, 2006
I live in York Maine with my mom, dad and brother devon, a thai ridgeback. My mom and dad found me in Rhode Island where I stayed for a while after a very mean guy hit me over the head with a baseball bat.
The first thing people notice about me are the "petals" on my back; see, I'm mostly white with 3 dark brown spots that look like flower petals.
I am training for my first obedience trial at the end of Feb. I am so nervous, but probably not as much as my mom.

Hi, My name is Devon; I'm a red thai ridgeback. I live in York Maine with my mom, dad and sister Bridget an AmStaff.
I moved in with my mom and dad in November but I had known them for about 4 months prior. I was learning obedience with Robin Rubin at Mannerly mutts when my owner decided he didn't actually want me anymore. In a scramble to find someone to take care of me Robin knew of my mom and dad who had fallen in love with me from the beginning. Everything has fallen into place and now I have a family who loves me.
I, like my sister, am training for obedience trials, I'm a little behind where she is but I believe I will catch up quickly.
A little history on my breed:
We are generally considered a Pariah-type dating back to ancient times. Rock art indicated that we have accompanied hunters since the new stone age of Thailand (over 2,000 years ago). My breed isn't to common outside of Thailand and are still very rare in the United States. We are one of only three breeds that have a ridge of hair that runs along our backs in the opposite direction to the rest of the coat.
We are a very intelligent breed but because of isolation and lack of human contact, we are very independent and considered an undomesticated breed. We are naturally protective of our homes and families and though I hate to admit it we can be aggressive with other dogs and people.
