My name is abbie, I was adopted at the age of 6wks from litter of 13pups.  My mama was brought into the HCHS because she was pregnant(like it was her fault!!!!).  She gave birth in the shelter on winter night. She was slated to be euthanized due to her condition and no space.  Luckily, my sisters and brothers were sent off to foster care with our mama in the hope of second chances for all of us. the foster parents brought us back because we were all too much too handle. It made us sad because we enjoyed the warmth of a home setting and it was quiet for our mama to nurse us. So, up into adoptions we all went at 6wks and mama was in a different kennel.  I was the first to be adopted then soon found out later that all my siblings and mama were adopted!!!

I was raised up in New England (Vermont to be exact) and have enjoyed life ever since. I enjoy ball and frisbee chasing, messing up leaf piles, basking in the sun and making doggie paws in the snow next to my owner, Sherri.

I love life and learned how to embrace it.  I am very very loyal and protective to sherri.  I feel her pain and joy. One time, my owner stubbed her big toe and was limping on her right foot. Well, I wanted to know i shared her pain and anguish, so I started limping on my right paw until she was better.

I am getting older now and can't enjoy activities i did when I was a pup. So, now I just enjoy laying around and playing/protecting my sister kitties (they are on "mycatspace.com).  I now have hip problems and my owner has to help me to get up steps and to help me up when I get up from laying down. I love my companion, and remain lyal to her until it is time for me to cross the Rainbow Bridge.  Love, Abbie-dabbers

Hi, my name is Kaci, and i am the smaller dog on the right.  I had the best 3 1/2 years of my life.  I came into the shelter as a stray and then became an adoption return 3x...that sucked. Then one day, right before christmas, I became adopted and it was nice to lay next to the fire and feel the warmth of a fireplace.  My life was perfect--I had an awesome family, I loved the snow---it was so cool to make dog angels along with my companion.  My younger sister, Abbie was my BFF--we did everything together.  I became sick and after testings and x-rays, I found out I had brain cancer, and there wasn't a darn thing that could been done.

I lived my final months with Abbie and my companion.  i have learned what it is like to be loved and love.  Even though my life started out unwanted and unloved, I was able to overcome that. My owner understood me and because of her, I had become a better companion animal and a faithful friend to Abbie.

I passed away in my sleep with my owner and Abbie next to me. I am thankful that i passed away with them and not in a shelter or to be euthanized. I was given a fourth chance, and I am glad.
