6/22/09 UPDATE: Anastasia's vet visit

Update 6/22/09: Anastasia is doing pretty good. She is bending her back legs more. She enjoys walking with me acting as her back legs. I got her to stand up for about 3 minutes the other night. She does have some rug burns from scooting on her butt and I am trying to take care of them.

I will talk with the vet tomorrow about Anastasia's progress. As I said before, this is going to be a process of trial and errors. She will try treatment until we determine what is best for her. Thank you everyone for your prayes and well wishes!!

Update 6/20/09: Anastasia has started her cortisone pills and she seems to have more energy. I talked with the vet and she will most likely have to get another round of antibiotic. That is another $40. We are going to see how she is on the cortisone and then we will decide what is next!! Thank you everyone for all your support!! Now we only have the chip in to get donations with because I needed the fundable money so I could pay back the money that was loaned to me and my car insurance.

Update 6/18/09: ANASTASIA DOES NOT HAVE A BACTERIA INFECTION!! We are relived!! She will start the cortisone shots tomorrow and we will go from there. I am trying to find someone that is decent at sewing. I want to make something like chaps to cover the areas that she drags, to protect them.

Update6/17/09: night: The vet said that the results from her test will be back on Friday. If it is the bacteria infection she will be started on meds to treat it. This is so the bone spur (shadow) will not get any bigger. If it is just the arthritis ,then she will be getting cortizone shots. She is on an antibiotic now for her bladder infection. I will update when I know more!!

Video of Anastasia dragging butt!!

Hello, this is Brenda Anastasia's Momma. Anastasia is still at the vet because she had to be knocked out for the x-rays. We have seen the x-rays and there is a shadow in an area of her spine close to her hips. This shadow is pinching the nerves in that area which is causing her with problems walking. The shadow could be a number of things like arthritic swelling, cancer, or a bacteria infection called bentoria (?). The vet is 99% sure it is not a cancer. They ran a test and are sending it to a lab to be tested for the bacteria. If it is the bacteria they will treat it. But I will not know till the test comes back.

She does have a bladder infection because of her condition. The vet is going to show me how to express her bladder.

All in all I feeling a little better about this situation. Her vet bill so far is over $500. II had $300 saved up for this visit but I had to barrow from a family member for the rest. I am not sure how much treatment is going to cost but I will hopefully know more later. Everyone who has offered their prayers and has donated some for this cause, thank you. Every bit that I recieve will be going towards Anastasia. Here are the links:

Sweet Anastasia, it breaks our hears to see you like this. You are a fighter who doesn't give up. Look at that smile. We are so glad that is is not cancer or an infection. Phew! Even still you are dragging butt, you still want to enjoy the grass. It's the heart of the Dalmation that keeps you full of energy!

I went to my little cousins graduation and I got him this balloons because it reminded me of Anastasia. They don't fly up, you have to "walk" them. I think I took more pics of the dog than the graduateTongue out

Maybe acupuntures could do some help. I know it's a long shot so we are crossing our paws that the vet's shots do just the trick and no more is needed.

Much love from the pack!

InnocentSaying lots of prayers for you! Glad it not cancer or infection! So sad to see her this way! Would a wheeled cart help? Like Benji's? Like the cart that TuckersMom suggested. Think I saw somewhere, that has carts that are donated to dogs in need. Think it might be called wheelies. maybe you can google wheeled carts for dogs. Might find some there. I will try to look up something and let you know. Some sort of leather chaps is a good idea too. Maybe a piece of vinyl (or old vinyl tablecloth, or even an old shower curtain) cut to fit and tie on somehow, Punch holes to put ties through. Strap it to a harness. Just a few ideas. My creative mind is working on something to help her. Will let you know if I come up with anything. Will say lots of prayers for her and all of you! Innocent
