Hi Bella,

My name is Shadow & I'm also a black lab living in Massachusetts! I remember what it was like when I was your age, running & running all around the house. Oh that was fun, but I'm not so hyper since I've grown up some. My family always makes sure to leave a radio on when they have to leave me home all alone. My auntie heard that it helps calm doggies down & make them feel like they are not alone. And ya know what, I love having it on when there is no one home! I still get into trouble some when I'm alone, like I get into the trash in the kitchen or bathroom. Can't say that my family likes coming home to that one, but if they don't actually see me do it, then I really don't get into to much trouble for it!  

I hate the cold so in the winter, my favorite place is to lie in front of the fireplace! I was really scared of everything when I was your age (and for a long time after that). Heck, when my auntie would take for a walk every day, for 5 weeks I made her carry me! But she was really great about it, she didn't make me walk until I didn't feel scared anymore. When she would put me down, I'd try to crawl right back up her leg for the longest time! I liked it up there, but then after awhile, I started getting braver and like to smell things. But, boy was I scared to go swimming! No one, not even my auntie could get me into the water till I was 1 1/2 years old! Ya know what she did?? She took me and a bag of treats to the lake and first put one on the sand, then one a speck in the water. It was just enough so I had to get my paws wet if I wanted that treat, and I WANTED that treat!! Then she kept throwing them a speck further. Well, was I ever shocked when I realized my paws could not touch the bottom! At first I was scared, but in like 2 seconds, I realized I could do that swim thing and now I love to swim so much! So if you get scared, you can call your friend Shadow cuz I know what that feels like! I still get scared sometimes, but I'm way better then I use to be. My family was so loving and they never made me do anything that I was scared of and always made me feel so safe when I was scared.
