Time to fess up....

Okay... the few on MDS that have asked where I have been lately, it's true...I have been busy. Between having out of town company and remodeling it's been hectic.

BUT the truth of the matter is that when I posted about my sweet rescue dog, Blue, passing away I thought this dog community would be empathetic and kind and post condolences for me to pass along to Larry. Evidently the dog community is no more empathetic to others than the rest of the general population since we got 5 barks. FIVE out of 71 views. This is not only disappointing, but downright disgusting, particularly given the situation. Poor Blue was as close to death when I got him as he could have been. I wasn't even positive he was an Aussie because he looked so bad. You could literally feel every bone in his body. He not only weighed next to nothing, he had lost all of his muscle mass. Do you have an inkling of how starved a dog has to be to lose all their muscle??? We couldn't even get a blood draw for a heartworm test, because there was just nothing in his system. I fed him rice, yogurt, cottage cheese and chicken every couple of hours for weeks because his system couldn't handle the food. When we finally got some muscle on him, then we had to almost kill him again to treat for heartworms.

Needless to say, I am totally stunned by the lack of compassion here, so I have been debating whether or not I should keep my profile up. The reason I set one up was because I was told this was such a great group...and there are a few absolutely wonderful folks I have met, but normally when someone is in pain, you extend a hand....even if you don't know them.

You would think after so many years of rescue I would have got it through my thick head that people can be quite self-centered, but I continue to give the benefit of a doubt. Now I see more responses to fun and/or trivial things than to reach out to one of the best people I have met in my life (and being military, I have met LOTS of people). This is such a sad time....both from losing Blue and losing some more of my belief in people.

I am so sorry for the loss and lack of postings. I was not a pal and could not post here. Thanks for accepting. Please accept my sincere apologies for not responding sooner. I can only imagine how it must have felt. Lynn Mannas mommy

I was just about to ask you about how Larry's doing recently. It must be tough for him and for you, too. Just don't know what to say to ease your pain..........I know that lack of resoponses must hurt your feelings but please please do not take your profile down. You have no idea how your resuce stories inspired people like me, who knows very little about rescue but decided to take a baby step to adopt Evan Wylie. Annette you have done an amazing job to educate people about rescueing dogs and to form a dog/Aussie lover community. I know you're quite down. Call me if I can do anything to make you feel better. We are so sorry to hear about Blue.  We just read the blog and the loss of any pet is awful (we've experienced it too). I don't care what people say...they are a part of your family and when you lose one...it hurts just as much. But to lose one that had the courage and fight like Blue, I think makes it even harder.  To know everything he had been through.  Sounds like he was AMAZING.  We will keep Larry in our prayers and think of Blue when we look up at the stars.  We bet his is the brightest!

I just now read this. I am so very very sorry for you loss. I really don't know what to say but I am here for you if you need me and I am so sorry. Me & Nikki are sending you lots of prayers & love and Ellie is watching over you and I am sure she is making sure Blue is running right along with her.

Please know how sorry I am, and I know you must be in such great pain right now. Call me if you have time or feel like talking.

Lots and lots of love from me & Nikki

When I had to put my Casey down, I can not tell you the amount of people who were shocked at how hard I was taking it; telling me, "after all, it's JUST a dog". Surprising I didn't HURT them!!!

I think some people often do not know what to say.  Please know how much support like this can mean, when you are among people who share the passion about dogs, especially in difficult times.

I couldn't agree with you more about the lack of responce on the site and there are quiet a few trivial things that go on. I hope you will keep your site up because you have a wealth of knowledge about dogs and frankly I just plain like you. Please let me know how Larry is doing, I started to email him again but was afraid of maybe making him feel worse. You know what I mean, like when rachael lost Charlie, what do you say?

Please accept our family's condolences for the loss of Blue, and he sounds like he was more than one of a kind.  I wish I had seen the blog, I promise you I would have commented as I usually do whether or not I have known the person.

I agree with you that it is sad how many views you got versus how many people responded with barks.  Sometimes I lose my faith in people too and ask where is the humanity?  I sit there and try to figure how people can be so uncaring.  I find when I do that I am spinning my wheels, it won't change them, however putting out this blog was a great idea, it may make some people stop and think.  Again please accept our condolences and thanks for all you do in rescue for the dogs that can't say thanks to you.
