How to sleep with a people

I have been sharing my bed with Shooz for as long as I can remember.  She just won’t sleep anyplace else.  The thing is, Shooz is big and she takes up a lot more space compared to me.  But I have learned a few tricks to make sleeping with a people pretty nice.

First of all, you have to get on the bed.  I don’t know why Shooz got me a bed that’s so high up.  I’m short and I can’t jump that high yet.  She did put doggie stairs next to the bed but no way am I using those, they look evil!!  I prefer to use the Shooz elevator—it’s quick and efficient.

Next, you must choose your spot.  In my opinion, the bigger is better when it comes to beds. The best spot is the middle of the middle.  And its important to stretch out you body ad much as you can so that your people knows this is your space and they must stay on their side.  Even though I’m little, I manage to take up a good chunk of space.  Sometimes Shooz complains that she’s falling off the edge, but I don’t budge.  If it’s so bad—she can just get her own bed!!

There are some advantages to sharing your bed with a people.  People are warm!!!  Sometimes at night I get a little cold so I wake up Shooz and tell her that I desperately need to go out.  Then while she’s in the other room getting dressed, I sneak into her warm spot and go back to sleep.  If you try this, it is wise to ignore your person and pretend to be in a deep sleep when they come back.  Sometimes the can be a little annoyed.  It is also convenient if you need a little belly rub in the middle of the night.  I just lick Shooz until she wakes up (licking on the face works best) then I roll over onto my back and she pets me.  If she falls asleep before I’ve had enough, I just lick her hand and she gets back to it.

Training your people is a big job, but stick with it because it’s worth it.  Oh, I forgot to mention—the bed is a great place to hide all your toys and bones too!!

You have some great tips there, Buster. I also like a nice warm spot. So I wait until everyone gets settled, and then I go curl up as close as I can get to Mommy. If she's on her side I slide in and curl up in the nice "pocket" she makes. This is my favorite spot but the problem is that sometimes she changes positions and wakes me up. Since you seem so knowledgable about how to sleep with humans, I'm hoping that you can give me some tips to keep her from moving after I'm all nice and comfortable.

Hey Buster! Try this in bed at night - just when shooz gets comfortable - you sneak up behind shooz - cuddle in close and lay your head across shooz's neck. Mom always complains about snoring - yet I don't HEAR her snoring. I think she's trying to say that I snore (isn't that rude?) The mom loves it when I wrap my paws around her and cuddle her - she tells everyone that she sleeps in bed with a big german stud everynight -and I KNOW she means me :)

Hi Buster! I have to share my with my mom and dad. They say i take up the whole bed but their the big ones! Sometimes if I kick my mom enough she goes to sleep on the sofa which is fine with me then I can finally get a good nights sleep. When my mom gets up to check on my baby sis I ease into her spot when she returns she talks to me in her mean voice to move. I don't understand why she makes me move she's the one who gets up!!! AusSiebelts' Sleep Strategies

Lacey  ~ as mom is brushing teeth, thoughtfully arrange self on pillows, lengthwise. ALWAYS facing mom.

Chloe ~ Do NOT even think of the bottom corner of mom's side, it's mine, mine, mine!

Jackpot ~ as everyone settles in, quietly walk to bathroom (to get a running start). Hurl 80 lb into air, flinging giant lummox-self onto pile of two people, sisterdogs, and at least one cat. Results in lots of commotion and Jack getting any prime bed position.

No wonder Mack & Rudy prefer their own beds on the floor

Buster-

Are you sure you are sleeping in a dog bed?  That sounds like a people bed to me.
