Teeth Problems

Phoebs went to the vet this morning. She has some loose teeth. Any other yorkies out there with dental problems? And what did you do? She is eating fine.

We brush our yorkies teeth with an electric toothbrush - they share their own toothbrush attachment. It works well because the toothbrush is so much smaller than a doggie one. Also, the electric toothbrush does a good job. We don't do it as often as we should, but it keeps their teeth in great shape. Quincy will be 5 in November, has never had his teeth cleaned, and still doesn't need to. They don't love the electric tooth brush, but they tolerate it.

Hi There, Soleil isn't a Yorkie; however, my vet told me that dental issues with small dogs are very common.  Soleil has had her teeth cleaned twice in the 3yrs that I have had her.  My vet recommended that we try a dental diet (Royal Canin - not sure if I spelled that correctly) makes one for little dogs, as well as brushing her teeth.  That isn't working out all that well, but I do find using a human baby toothbrush works better than the ones sold with the doggy toothpaste.  Soleil had to have all of her lower teeth between her fangs and one upper tooth pulled when she first came to me.  She goes fine without them and never acted like having them pulled hurt.  Good luck with your little angels.
