Beau, my Pug
Update: I had to  put my dear to sleep July 13,2010.  He was 15, and his spinal problem passed my ability to relieve it.  My friend, my vet, came to the house since Beau so hated the vet office. I held him in my arms as his soul slipped away. I miss him so much.

~~Hi Everyone~~
THANK YOU for my BIRTHDAY WISHES!

I am about to pass my second Obedience Class!

My little sister Sammie is a true Scottie.  My Dog Trainer says that I didn't read the book on being a Scottie.  My Dad says that Sammie wrote the book on being a Scottie!

Have a GooD Summer!

This bark is for the people of our MDS pals, so why don't you puppers go outside & play for a bit while your humans read this.

A little while back, over on FaceBook, Penny (JalepanoPack) - mother to Lainey, Jack, and Benji (RIP) had a dream.  In her dream she was out walking with Benji who led them to a strange house.  Inside the house Sweet SUE & PALADIN greeted them.  And a whole bunch of other MDS puppers where there too.

This led to a bit of chatter about how great an MDS meet-up would be.  As the chatter dwindled, I posted that it would be great, but with caring for my father I wouldn't be able to travel - so I could only attend if everybody wanted to come to Spring Lake, MI.

It was just a joke, but the more I thought about it the more I thought "Why not?"

We have a nice dog friendly hotel in the Spring Lake Holiday Inn.  We have a great little brewpub that is named Old Boy's after a black lab where we could have a nice dinner outside on the shores of Spring Lake with our leashed dogs in attendance.  We have a nice new dog park in nearby Ferrysburg (less than a 5 minute drive) where we could get a permit for a tailgate party while our furkids had some off-leash fun.

I'm pretty sure I could get some sponsors to help offset costs a little bit (especially if Robert & Hershey will let us make this an official MDS event), and I know that I can get local media coverage.  And since my real life job involves producing videos, I could produce a DVD of the proceedings.

I bounced this off of Penny, and we decided that all schedule things considered, the best possibility of pulling it off would be a weekend in mid-October.  It would still be warm enough that we could enjoy the time outside with our furkids, and the fall colors would be pretty sweet as well.

Would there be any interest in this?  If we could get 10 or 12 packs involved we could pull it off.

In my mind I've been calling this concept "Benjifest."  Just as in our MDS lives where Benji pulled us all together with her tales of life, love, and loss - a dream of Benji could pull us all together in real life to share a weekend of fun and friendship.

If you're interested please comment on our blog, bark on our profile, or post over on FaceBook.  If there is enough interest, we could make the first ever MDS "Benjifest" a reality.

Off the top of my head the schedule would look something like this:

Friday Night: Meet & Great (on-leash) at Millpoint Park in Spring Lake
Saturday: all-day off leash fun & tailgate barbeque at the Coast Guard Park dog park in Ferrysburg
Saturday Night: dinner with leashed dogs at Old Boy's Brewery
Sunday Morning: Rainbow Bridge Rememberance Ceremony

Thanks for reading all of this, please feel free to chime in with other ideas and let us know if there is any interest.

Now, go let those puppers back in and give them some extra lovins.

Jim
