My Blog Entry
I HATE thunderstorms!
All my doggy pals living in the US will be looking forward to a snowy Christmas....but here in Australia it's the season for swelteringly hot, humid weather, broken up here and there by heavy rainfalls and scary thunderstorms (howl....whimper).
I don't know which is the worst thing about them....the loud, tinny rattle of heavy rain hammering on the roof, the low, deep rumble of thunder which reverberates through the whole house, or the sudden sharp crack of lightning which just about makes me jump out of my skin.....each of those things is unpleasant enough by themselves, but all together in one night it absolutely traumatises poor little me! I know I'm a big dog and I look like a real tough guy, but underneath I'm really very sensitive.
Unfortunately my stomach is also sensitive. Last week was particularly bad with lots of stormy weather, and Dad tried to comfort me with food....big mistake! Normally I love to eat, but when I'm stressed-out by anything I feel really sick in the stomach and can't keep anything down. Mum had read somewhere that chicken soup is good for people who are sick, and she thought it might work on dogs as well, so she decided to make me chicken soup! I couldn't eat it at the time, I was still too busy having a panic attack on the bed, but once the storm was over and things had calmed down I enjoyed it very much.
Dad says I act like a real drama queen because I love having Mum fuss over me, but I noticed he enjoyed the soup just as much as I did. He had four bowlfuls. Lucky there was plenty left, more than enough for Mum and me to bring some over to Aunty Sue and Axel when I had my play-date with Axel on Sunday! She's been a bit stressed because of the thunderstorms too, but hopefully some of my Mum's chicken soup will help to improve her mood.....
