Let's get DIRRRTY!
Well, here in Australia summer has officially arrived. The weather is hot and steamy. Mum has to walk me either in the early morning before the sun really hits, or early evening when it's just starting to cool down, because she's concerned that the heat will affect me. Ever since that time on Christmas Day 2005 when I had a problem with heat stress, she's taking no chances. She and my Dad both check every day to see that my water bowl is always full, because I always drink more in the hot weather.
There's one thing about summer that I hate even more than the oppressive heat, though, and that's the more frequent baths! Both Mum and Dad say it does me good, but I still find it very unpleasant to be hosed from top to toe. Having the shampoo rubbed into my coat is not so bad, but after Mum's finished doing that I know I have to brace myself for rinsing time, and I cringe when I can see she's getting ready to start hosing me again (shudder).
Mum always gets very annoyed with me when I lay down on my side, because it makes it difficult for her to wash my other side. When she complained about it to Dad once, he said he never had a problem with giving me baths, whereupon Mum glared at him and said that if that was the case, she'd be happy to let him take over that unpleasant task. Well, all I can say to that is I find it even more unpleasant being on the receiving end of this treatment!
Besides, I don't see why having so many baths is necessary. I'm a lot more comfortable staying dirty - at least I don't get wet that way! So, to register my objection, as soon as the dreaded Bath Time is over, I run straight out into the yard and roll around in the grass and the dirt. Mum is always too exhausted to object, and can only wait until I've properly dried off until she lets me inside again. Now THAT'S heaps of fun....rolling around in the yard! All together now my doggie pals....let's rock and roll! Let's have fun! Let's get DIRTY!
