Rebel is such a great pup and we are so thankful for him that I wrote a short story about his experience and entered it in The Great American Pet Story. I am so pleased to let everyone know that Rebel won Pet Supplies Plus Great American Pet Stories. Here is his story:
When we decided to get a puppy I was a nervous wreck. We don't have any children, so getting a puppy was our first living thing we were responsible for(besides ourselves). We did a little research and decided a puggle was the right mix for us. We found some reasonably priced ones in the paper and decided to give it a shot.
We arrived at the home where the pups were. We hesitantly walked up to the door because the house was not the nicest but there was the most darling pup in the window. We went in and instantly we knew he was the one. However I was worried because he looked malnourished and had some spots on his fur that didn't look so good. We decided to take him out of the bad environment and take our chances, and he became our Rebel.
On our way home we stopped by at the veterinarian that I knew we would be taking him to. I immediately made an appointment for the following day because I was so concerned.
His first appointment went well. However two days later he started to get sick, throwing up, not eating, lethargic and so on. I took him back in to the vet and they gave him some fluids and said to see how he did with that. He didn't get better. So he had to go and stay at the vets for 8 days. Those were the longest 8 days of my life. We had just gotten the little guy and now he was taken away from us. They had him on IVs and he was barely hanging on. They determined that he had a severe intestinal virus so bad the lining was almost eaten away and he had worms due to his poor surroundings when he was born. I called everyday only to hear he was the same not much change. At that time the vet did not tell me this but I found out after wards that no one thought he was going to make it. And then when hope was almost gone he began to eat and started to get a little stronger. It was a Sunday night we were given the ok to take him home. We were so happy words cant even describe.
All I can say is that we are truly blessed to have such a wonderful dog. Rebel is a year and a half now and is just incredible. He has brought so much love and happiness to our lives. I don't know what it was that gave him the strength to pull through but he truly is our miracle.
