Can You Help Me?

Chandler’s mom here with a question for multi-dog families.

I am thinking about getting another dog. This one will be a puppy. They are only 1 week old, and terrier/chiuawa(sp?)/snouzer(sp?) mix.

Chandler’s never been around other dogs much. My mom’s dog is old and doesnt really care for Chandler much, but her female loves to play with him. Anyother dog he’s been around he trys to be playful, it’s either he doesnt know how to take them, or not sure what to think about it.

I dont really know what to expect with the new puppy, I’ve never had two dogs at once.

Any ideas/advice?

Hi! I have three, and love it. I just read your post, so Chandler does love to play, and has been with other dogs! Well that is great. You are off to a great start. It will be easy for you, since it's a puppy, and dogs have this inner sense that it is a "PUP", and will act differently, then if it was a adult dog being introduced into the pack. ( but still you should get a watchful eye on the pup, that he doesn't hurt Chandler by mistake, pawing and chewing on him, pup things ya know) I have Sugar a month now, and she will be Two years old. So I have had it both ways over here, pups and older dog. There are so many things you can read on this great world wide web, with lots of great information and ideas. The main thing is to remember to always give attention to Chandler too, and not make him feel left out. They will become best pals..you will see. The other dog will be smaller then, it seems from the mix you wrote up. Trust me , when you have one dog, the second and third is not much more work, at least that is what I found to be true. They play with each other, and keep each other company, over here we have this great pack going on.

Remember you are the PACK LEADER..that is the main thing you have to remember. Over here with two big sheps ..we had to have that established right away.

I think you might be able to access "dog fancy" on line..I think last months issue had a article about introducing a new pup to an older dog.

Good LUCK now!!!
