Olie and Ember's health

So today was supposed to be Olie's vet appointment... I didn't cancel, but I did postpone it because of Ember (plus I was having a hard time getting off work to take him).  I mentioned that she threw up 3 times Sunday morning, then she threw up twice yesterday.  These 5 times are the ones I saw, so I don't really know how many there actually were.  She doesn't just eat grass- she tears it out of the ground one big mouthful at a time and destroys it by jerking her head side to side- she doesn't really swallow much- mostly just throws it around all over the place (she's pretty funny when she's not pottying on the floor)- this is a game- not an effort to vomit.  Anyway, her vomit has been mostly mucus, and yesterday's had some weird stringy stuff in it, may have been grass.  She's also had a bit of a (forgive my grossness) loose stool.  So I still was supposed to take a sample to the vet (I forgot it at her last appt), so I got yesterday morning's.  When I came home from work yesterday, I discovered she'd had a runny accident on a puppy training pad- a nice white surface- I never would have noticed if not for that pad- but there was a red spot in there that I was afraid was a spot of blood.  So I took the sample from the morning of the same day to the vet and told them what was going on, they're going to do some tests and call me today.  Depending on what they say, I'll make appointments for one or both of them.  I don't think they're passing anything back and forth: Olie's symptoms were dry cough, unsuccessful attempts to vomit.  Embers are successful vomiting and loose stool.  Olie, at this point, seems to be completely back to normal and I'm not worried about him at all- he does still have an occassional cough which he's always had, so I may go ahead and take him in and ask about acid reflux and/or allergies, but I think his "attack" was likely from a stick or something in his throat.  I'm not too worried about Ember either- she puts EVERYTHING in her mouth, so as long as she didn't get something poisonous, she probably just has an upset stomach.  It hasn't affected her energy level AT ALL (I wish it would!).  But I am glad I took a sample to the vet.  So that's the latest on my Goldens... I think part of it is just that I'm not used to taking care of 2 dogs, one of which is a full time job, a little experience (and about 10 puppy sitters) could go a long way here!  So for now, I'm just waiting for a call from the vet to determine if they need to go in.  Thanks everyone, for your support and advice and such!!

Also, Olie's cough could be related if you think he might be geting into the cat box. The litter gets stuck in their throat when it gets wet from the slobber. It Makes them cough.

We had a scare with Lucy a couple of times with the same symptoms as Ember. We finally realized what was happening and since I knew you had a cat, I thought I would just mention it.

Finally figured out she was sick from eating the cat poo from the liter box.

She had the same thing, the throwing up, the real jelly like and runny bloody stool.

Once we took the box out of her reach, it hasn't happened anymore.

Your cat box may not even be with Ember's reach, but I thought I'd mention it because it sounds so much like what Lucy was doing.

My neice actually figured it out. She is a Biologist and has lots of pets too, the minute her mother told her Aunt Marcia's Lucy is sick and she is worried about her, and told her what Lucy was doing, I got a call back from my sister, and she said, Amy said to get the cat box out of reach its a bacteria they get from eating it and most Dogs love to eat it so Lucy probably is.

And, I knew she ate it some, I tried to keep it clean, but once in a while I'd find pieces on the floor. So We keep it up high on a table now. The cat still uses it and the Dogs can't get to it.

Oh I am rambling, Good Luck and let me know. Also Is Olie better?

We are happy Olie is back to normal. As for Ember, welcome to the 'puppy brain' stage, as I like to call it. It's like raising children, but thank heavens it only lasts for 2 1/2-3 years...after that you will reap the benefits of all the hard work. Like babies, they put everything in their mouths. Just remember around 5-6 months she is going to loose her 'puppy license' and then Olie will help you 'train' her. Try to enjoy her 'goofy' stage if you can, finding the humor in most situations really helps to get past the little bumps in the road. I could be frustrated by Monty one minute, then sit and watch him toss his little 'stuffies' in the air and catch them and run around and around the yard, just enjoying the heck out of being alive, and find myself laughing at his antics.

It's going to be a fun ride, and very short, once you look back. Enjoy, and remember nervous moms make nervous babies!

We are really glad that Olie appears to be back to normal. Astrid had a bout with coughing one day at day camp a while back and they took her out of class and isolated her in a kennel for the rest of the day. They didn't consider it serious enough to call me to come and get her. From the moment I went and picked her up, there was no cough or any signs of one, so it sounds like that, for both Astrid and Olie, was just a 'dog thing'. Good for both of us.

We are following Ember's trips to the vets and her little escapades. She's a baby and baby's are weird. I just know you will eventually get it all worked out, she'll grown into a great mature wonderful dog, just like Olie and all this will be history.

Thanks for keeping us updated.
