My Blog Entry
Earthquake!
Well, apparently I somehow managed to sleep through this thing. Ya know how animals are supposed to be in tune with the earth and know things before humans? Not me! The ground started shaking the other night and I heard Mom downstairs yell up to me and Dad. Here’s how it went:
M: There’s an earthquake!
D: Yeah
M: Do you feel it?
D: Yeah, I feel it.
M: Will you come down here?
Pause…..
M: it’s still going!
D: Yeah.
M: Maybe you should come down here!
D: Why?
M: Because there’s an earthquake!
And then the shaking finally stopped. It seemed like it lasted a really long time! Mom said that 2 of the Cat Heads were playing downstairs, and they both just stopped in their tracks and started looking around, and funny, they were both looking in the same directions at the same time! I just sat there. I didn’t care. Dad didn’t care much either, but Mom’s from Iowa so she was kinda scared. There apparently wasn’t any damage, but the epicenter was just a couple miles from our cabin! We haven’t been there yet to check for damage (we were at the Cat House on the coast at the time- 35 miles away as the crow flies). But Minnie’s Dad (our neighbor at the cabin) called and said everything was OK at his house, so we’re hoping everything is OK at our cabin too. It was a 5.2 magnitude!
This was the second one in a week. There was a 3.7 last week that was centered literally DIRECTLY under where Mom was working! There was a sharp jolt and stuff fell off the walls and she ran for the doorway (you’re supposed to stand in a doorway during an earthquake- it’s supposedly the most structurally sound place you can be). She was in the middle of writing to Astrid when it happened. They were discussing my lack of fashion sense. Gheesh. All because I gave Rubber Chicken a Rubber Tire necklace.
My cat friend TYK thinks he wants to do a hula dance in tune with the shaking next time we get a shaker! He’s a nutcase- I read his blog on CatSpace. Watch out for him at the next party- he’s a real sly little dude!

Tyke is coming to the pawtie? Cool! You were in the process of barking on my page when the other earthquake occurred. And now another? My mom would be a little scared too. Hopes that the end of 'em for awhile.

Olie, you and your dad are so brave for not panicking. I think me and my mom would be hysterical. Although your mom sounded pretty calm too. Glad everryone is ok. -Sami

Whoa Olie.. sleeping thru an earthquake.. i wish I could sleep that good.. apparenty I got my "I hear everything" from Mommy.. she can't even roll over in bed without me getting up to check it out.. (and of course sometimes I try to get her to play in the middle of the night--and she's not happy when I do).. I hope everything is ok at your cabin and I'm glad to hear that you and your friends are OK. Sierra

Ollie, you know we had one about a week and a half ago and we all felt it. Scary, Mom has never had anything like that happen coming from Florida... She will stay for the hurricanes but this stuff here is scary, the tornados then the earthquake.... Oh my mom is a nervous wreck..... Gerogia

You slept through an earthquake? We are glad to hear that you, your family, and your homes are okay. But sleeping right through it - that's amazing. We've never been in one but we don't think we'd sleep through it if we were. We stay on high alert at all times. Today we got in trouble for doing just that!
