Ignorance can hurt

No one likes to actually admit thier ignorance... But if by admitting mine I can change the perspective of only one person I could maybe save some doglets.

Truth be told, The reason I waited 10months to have Sophie speyed was because I wanted to breed her and have lots of puppies. My mind slowly changed by reading the Monty Musings,Astrid's mum's saying (don't shop ADOPT), threads in the forums (why backyard breeding is bad, etc.etc. etc.I didn't have an educated opinion about it. But education is power..And I was learning..

My views are in complete contrast as what they used to be, and I thank all of you on MDS for enlighting and educating me.

As much as we all aggravate eachother, MDS. really is a great site for dog lovers, Sophie and I am grateful to EVERYONE for the knowlege I have gained. And I an happy to telly you that I will leave the Breeding to the professionals.

 Much love,

Nadia and the chocolate doglets

Nadia, I so admire your blog. It is wonderful on three levels: first, that you had Sophie spayed instead of breeding her (as a side benefit, she is less at risk for breast cancer); second, that you were open to information you hadn't considered before; and third, that you made a public statement about your changed views. What a great role model!

Nadia ~ Thank you, for your honesty and having an open mind to take in all the info available. You are a better dog owner and your dogs will have a better life, because of it. You have helped to save lives, on your quest for knowledge.

Members in any community may disagree (and that's fine, as long as there is respect and an open line of communication). We all share a love of dogs, and that is stronger than anything us silly 2LS can dole out. Tina

GREAT post!!! I used to think the same thing too. I wanted to breed Maverick, and truth be told he has a fantastic temperament that would have been an asset to any breed, but I saw so much neglect and abuse there is no way I could ever breed any of my guys....like you said, leave it to the pros (if there is such a thing!)

Thanks for your post and glad to hear you have turned around!

Nice post!  I agree with you that I've learned SO much from MDS.  Most people probably don't realize that Olie's Dad and I aren't married- we're engaged.  He had Olie before we met, so it's more like I was adopted into their family, rather than Olie being adopted into our family!  I had dogs as a kid growing up on the farm in Iowa, but I was a cat person, until I met Olie.  So with that in mind, I really didn't have the first clue about how to REALLY take care of a dog!  I was (and still am) way more ignorant that I ever realized.  MDS has been a wonderful source of information and I'm very grateful for it.  We've made a lot of changes in the way we deal with Olie because of it.  We're lucky that he's SUCH a good boy, there's really not much "dealing" to do, but we've changed his feeding schedule and learned a lot about health issues and things like that.  I'm learning quickly, and MDS is very much responsible for that.
