Banjo Bee-Gee's Disco Dress Rehersal
Hey guys!
How do we look for tomorrow?? Feel free to post your dress rehearsal pictures here too.
Banjo-bee and Sophie-Lu
Banjo, Sophie, and our Senior friends:)
I love my job..
I know I have mentioned on forums etc. that kindness begets kindness..My dogs have made a common interest between me and an awesome elderly couple I look after.
Very proud and influential couple, both worked in my town for 60+ years. I was introduced to them about a month ago. These two are really somthing to learn from. Married for 72 years, 96 and 97 yeard olds were not quite ready for any help from outsiders. I was recieved by them with a less than warm welcome.
I brought Banjo by 2 weeks ago, trying to make friends with this wise couple who locked me out of thier house. And my reception was so much better with my little Banjo. I had created a common bond between anyone who is GOOD!!
My next day at work was kind of tough, but I was accepted into thier house with smiles. I caretake 5 days a week but find myself going over there 6 or 7. I am enthralled with my senior friends, teaching me new stuff, and oh the stories.
These dogs have enriched my life so much..I am forever grateful..
Much love,
Nadia
Banjo saves the day
I am going to start this story by saying that a little fat dog seems to calm even the most savage soul.
I started out working with Evelyn about 2 weeks ago. She is 96 years old woman, and she believes she needs no help from anyone. let alone a much younger girl.
Evelyn worked at the town hall of Exeter for 63 years, a home grown and very able woman. Evelyn is married to Dan, a 95 year old man,who is also a home grown Exeter man.
I arrive on Tuesday morning, and my welcome was much less than warm. Evelyn threatened me, tried to hit me, and locked me out of her house. I called the company I worked for and they told me that Evelyn was cranky and had dimensia, this I already knew. They then told me that they kept a spare key on the porch, as Evelyn hated the caregivers, and has done this numerous times before. So I let myself back in, luckily, Evelyn thought it was a different day.
Dan the husband is deaf but is more kind to me. He has a garden in the back yard. He also keeps this have a heart trap in the garden to catch vermin etc. When somthing is caught, I am told to call the Exeter dog catcher to release the critter in another area. If it takes the dog catcher too long to arrive, I am instructed to let the critter out myself. This day however, there was a skunk in that trap. Now I am told to NEVER argue with Dan, he is the man of the house and just do as he says. This is echoing through my head as he is screaming at me to,” LET THAT POOR HEDGEHOG OUT OF THAT TRAP!!!” I tell Dan, “Dan, I think that is a skunk, I will call the dog catcher.” Dan looks at me angrily and yells. ” DO YOU THINK I AM A DAMN FOOL??!!” ” YOU ARE BEING CRUEL BY KEEPING IT IN THAT TRAP, THE DOGCATCHER ALWAYS TAKES TOO LONG!!!!” At this point Evelyn is getting aggravated as well, orbiting all around me shaking her fists. I take a deep breath, and try to figure out what to do. Dan locks himself in the bathroom mad that I am defying him, leaving me alone with Evelyn.
Evelyn tells me she is going to call the police, why am I in HER house?? And to just leave her and her husband alone. My shift ended and I went home. I cried on the way home, as I am only human, and now I had to see these mean people 4 times a week for 7 hour increments.
I tell my husband about my day and how it was causing me so much anxiety to see this couple again. I mean, part of me loved them…95 and 96 years old! Married and still sleep in the same bed!! They were awesome! But just hated the fact they were losing thier independence etc.My husband told me to just wait till my next shift with them, see how it went, and if it was really bad to ask the company to have another caregiver take my shifts.
My next shift with them is tomorrow, and all weekend I have been stressing about it. So today I went to visit them, but I brought with me a secret weapon. My Banjo Bee…
I walked into the front door and Evelyn looked at me and grimaced. Then she saw my lil meatball in my hands and her face lit up! She and Dan petted Banjo and talked to him. I let him visit for about a half an hour, answering questions about him. I was also getting along WONDERFULLY with Evelyn. She was being really nice to me. It’s as thought my Banjo helped me to be more well recieved by her.
I said bye to Evelyn and that I’d see her tomorrow. She petted Banjo and thanked me for coming by with him. She also told me she loved dogs, always had them growing up, and could I bring him back again tomorrow?
Banjo alleviated my stress about tomorrow and helped bridge a 65 year year old gap between two women.
Everyone, hold your pets…Hug and kiss them they will repay you back in the most selfless and unselfish ways.

Ignorance can hurt
No one likes to actually admit thier ignorance… But if by admitting mine I can change the perspective of only one person I could maybe save some doglets.
Truth be told, The reason I waited 10months to have Sophie speyed was because I wanted to breed her and have lots of puppies. My mind slowly changed by reading the Monty Musings,Astrid’s mum’s saying (don’t shop ADOPT), threads in the forums (why backyard breeding is bad, etc.etc. etc. I began to become angry at people who took breeding so la-de-da. I even stuck up for someone who bred her dog with a neighbors dog just for the pups.
My views are in complete contrast as what they used to be, and I thank all of you on MDS for enlighting and educating me.
As much as we all aggravate eachother, MDS. really is a great site for dog lovers, Sophie and I am grateful to EVERYONE for the knowlege I have gained. And I an happy to telly you that I will leave the Breeding to the professionals.
Much love,
Nadia and the chocolate doglets

LiL Sophie
Everyone say a little prayer to St. Francis..Sophie is going to get spayed tomorrow.
Thank you to everyone who gave advice on the cost of speying..As I probably would have spent the $600.00 on her not knowing. I researched another animal hospital and am paying only $340.00
OOO and thank you Nannie for telling me about that inflatable PRO collar. I just bought one at Petco so she wont need that horrid lampshade thing.
Thanks for your your prayers for lil Soph!
Hugs,
Nadia
Chocolate Shake
Okay, I wasn’t going to blog this but…It is funny as hell so here goes.
About a week ago in the evening I was awakening to find Banjo shrieking, when I came down from upstairs to see what had transpired this is what I was confronted with…
Dan, at the dog box, Sophie on the floor and Banjo waaaay in back of his box.
I was confused at what I saw and asked Dan,(who supposedly DOESN’T like dogs laying with him) what happened..This is what he said..
"I was sitting on the couch all alone, you went to bed too early."
"So I called Banjo and Sophie to come lay with me, they wouldn’t come out of that box." "So I went over to thier box and called again, they were sleeping or somthing." Well why did Banjo scream then??
"I’m getting to that, When they wouldn’t come out I tipped the box over and shook it." " Sophie tumbled out and Banjo somehow clung to the inside of thier box." I think he’s traumatized..
I told him that when they were in thier box they were sleeping and didn’t like to be disturbed. Then Dan said," but I was watching Ghost Hunters and got creeped out." How do you get them out when they are sleeping?
I DON’T!!!THAT’S THIER TIME TO NOT BE BOTHERED!!
Then Dan was crestfallen, he was like," all you have to do is whisper the word "doglet" and thier at your side..
He felt bad, so I finished watching stupid not scary ghost show with him…
SHHHHH!!ITS A SURPRISE
Okay,
Finally the chocolates will let me do a lil blog of my own.
I know this isn’t dog related but I bought the Hubby a Harley Davidson for Christmas..
The man is going to deliver it to the horse barn today, it’s a surprise!!
OMG I haven’t been this excited about anything since I was a child!!
