A Prayer for Animals

Hear our humble prayer, O God, for our friends, the animals, especially for those who are suffering; for any that are lost or deserted or frightened or hungry. We entreat for them all Thy mercy & pity, and for those who deal with them we ask a heart of compassion & gentle hands & kindly words. Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals & so to share the blessings of the merciful. Albert S’chweitzer

Why God created Pets

A newly discovered chapter in the Book of Genesis has provided the answer to ‘Where do pets come from?’

Adam and Eve said, ‘Lord, when we were in the garden, you walked with us every day. Now we do not see you anymore. We are lonesome here, and it is difficult for us to remember how much you love us.’

And God said, I will create a companion for you that will be with you and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourselves.’

And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam and Eve.
And it was a good animal.
And God was pleased.

And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and Eve and he wagged his tail.
And Adam said, ‘Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and I cannot think of a name for this new animal.’

And God said, ’ I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him DOG.’

And Dog lived with Adam and Eve and was a companion to them and loved them.

And they were comforted.

And God was pleased.

And Dog was content and wagged his tail.

After a while, it came to pass that an angel came to the Lord and said, ‘Lord, Adam and Eve have become filled with pride. They strut and preen like peacocks and they believe they are worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught them that they are loved , but perhaps too well.’

And God said, I will create for them a companion who will be with them and who will see them as they are. The companion will remind them of their limitations, so they will know that they are not always worthy of adoration.’

And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam and Eve.

 

And Cat would not obey them. And when Adam and Eve gazed into Cat’s eyes, they were reminded that they were not the supreme beings.

And Adam and Eve learned humility.

And they were greatly improved.

And God was pleased

And Dog was happy.

And Cat didn’t give a crap one way or the other.

 

How to wrap Xmas presents with a puppy

1. Gather presents, boxes, paper, etc. in middle of living room
floor.
  2. Get tape back from puppy.
  3. Remove scissors from older dog’s mouth.
  4. Open box.
  5. Take puppy out of box.
  6. Remove tape from older dog’s mouth.
  7. Take scissors away from puppy.
  8. Put present in box.
  9. Remove present from puppy’s mouth.
10. Put back in box after removing puppy from box.
11. Take scissors from older dog & sit on them.
12. Remove puppy from box & put on lid.
13. Take tape away from older dog.
14. Unroll paper.
15. Take puppy OFF box.
16. Cut paper being careful not to cut puppy’s foot or nose that is
getting the way as she "helps".
17. Let puppy tear paper remaining to be cuts.
18. Take puppy off box.
19. Wrap paper around box
20. Remove puppy from box & take wrapping paper from her mouth.
21. Tell older dog to hold tape so he will stop stealing it.
22. Take scissors away from puppy.
23. Take tape older dog is holding.
24. Quickly tape one spot before taking scissors from older dog &
sitting on them again.
25. Fend off puppy trying to steal tape & tape another spot.
26. Take bow from older dog.
27. Go get roll of wrapping paper puppy ran off with.
28. Take scissors from older dog who took them when you got up.
29. Give pen to older dog to hold so he stops licking your face.
30. Remove puppy from present & hurriedly slap tape on to hold the
paper on.
31. Take now soggy bow from puppy & tape on since the sticky
stuff no longer sticks.
32. Take pen from older dog, address tag & affix while puppy tries
to eat pen.
33. Grab present before puppy opens it & put away.
34. Clean up mess puppy & older dog made playing tug-of-war with
roll of wrapping paper.
35. Put away rest of wrapping supplies & tell dogs what good
helpers they are.

Go Red Sox!

I’m just recovering from this new experience on Monday night.  My Mom kept yelling "Go Red Sox!" and telling me to bark for it too.  I’ve never seen Mom so excited or heard her so loud!  Now I have a new shirt to wear to tell everyone I too am part of Red Sox Nation.  I can’t imagine how loud it will get for the coming games, but I’m ready to bark my cheers!

Just my dog

 

She is my other eyes that can see above
the clouds; my other ears that hear above
the winds. She is the part of me that can
reach out into the sea.

She has told me a thousand times over that
I am her reason for being: by the way she
rests against my leg; by the way she thumps
her tail at my smallest smile; by the way she
shows her hurt when I leave without taking her.
(I think it makes her sick with worry when she
is not along to care for me.)

When I am wrong, she is delighted to forgive.
When I am angry, she clowns to make me smile.
When I am happy, she is joy unbounded.
When I am a fool, she ignores it.
When I succeed, she brags.
Without her, I am only another person. With her,
I am all-powerful.
She is loyalty itself.
She has taught me the meaning of devotion.
With her, I know a secret comfort and a
private peace. She has brought me understanding
where before I was ignorant.
Her head on my knee can heal my human hurts.
Her presence by my side is protection against
my fears of dark and unknown things.
She has promised to wait for me…
Whenever…wherever-in case I need her.
And I expect I will-as I always have.

She is just my dog.

Here I am putting my pawprints for all the World to see and share.  Today is very hot and very humid here on Cape Cod Ma, so my Mom and I aren’t going to the park for any new adventures.  All last week it was nice and cool so we went daily for an hour or two.  Such wonderful smells in the park!  There’s a small Zoo there, so I also get to see lots of animals. I especially like the ponies which give little children rides on them, but not those roosters who crow at me everytime I walk by, silly things it’s 11AM not 6AM!

The Mountain Goats just eye me suspiciously, and those huge Buffalo keep their distance.  The Elephants are always performing tricks for the groups of children who come to see them, but I can’t get a good look at them as they’re too far inside.

So, today I’m just lying on the couch, enjoying the AC, with my head facing the window.  I’m ready to bark at any dogs that walk by!
