Itchy & Frustrated

I'm having a real problem with Diesel's skin and coat. He went to the vet, they said it was a bacterial skin infection. So had to take 6 antibiotics a day for 3 weeks. He went back, and they did 3 skin scraping and blood work to check his thyroid. He dosen't have mange BUT he has a really low T4 level. So now he has to take thyroid medicine the rest of his life. :(

They ran tests on Monty for allergies...came back allergic to rice, which is in just about every dog food. We settled on one with oatmeal and sweet potato instead of rice, and chicken. Pinnacle.

Smash is on a thyroid med fur the rest of his life, also...we know how you feel. I also have him on a home-made diet with supplements and his coat is unbelievably soft...no itchies here...bol!

Sounds like food allergy. What food/treats does he get? Make sure there's no corn, wheat, soy or byproducts!! More in mom's blog: Itchy Dog? The AusSiebelts

I had the same thing happen with m other Bulldog I had....that sucks!!!

My Gus now had a mild case a mange, I guess there is different kinds of it but the one he had I had to put a ointment on it everyday for a month but the vet said once he turned a year old it would go away and it did!! Good luck with the poor guy!!
