HAPPY GOTCHA DAY RILEY
4 years ago today I walked into the SPCA just looking and walked out with this beautiful dog who ate the bagels I had in the front seat while I was in picking up my crate from my friend.
Its hard to believe its been 4 years, time goes by so fast. And evey day is a treasure to have Riley by my side.
Here is a video of the two boys I did a couple years ago. I hope you like it

its been a month
Its been a month since Jake had his surgery, wow does time fly. He's doing wonderful. The inscision is finally healed and he's got a nice battle scar. His hair is finally starting to grow back in.
He's back to his normal obnoxious self, running about and he is loving chasing his ball again.
Biopsy Results Are In
Wonderful news today from the vet. The biopsy came back as a lipoma which means its not cancer. I'm so happy and releived and so is the vet too.
Jake is doing good, he's had some drainage this week but I took him in last night to have a looksee and they said it was fine and healing nicely. He is wearing a tank top so he doesn't lick it, he looks kind of cute I think
And I'm so surprised that he doesn't mind wearing it. I really thought he'd have a fit.
He hates being in the crate all day and I give him a sedative so he sleeps most of it and he's fine and relaxed when I get home. He is starting to feel better though I can tell. I'm now having to tell him not to jump and to go down the steps slowly. So I know he's feeling better.
Saturday we get stitches out
Jake is home and doing fine
sorry I didn't get a chance to update last night.
He pretty much slept most of the evening away after he had some dinner. The nurse did say that he tried to get into Dr. Reabe's purse and steal her sandwich yesterday he was so hungry.
This morning he was doing fine. I finally got to get him on his back
for a good look and there is a lump (or pocket) in between the top of
the incision and his arm pit. I called her and she said that was normal
and could take a couple weeks to go down, but if it gets bigger or
feels warm to bring him in. It is cool to the touch and if I am
concerned about it I can bring him in to have her look at it.
He
ate his breakfast and pooped this morning and it was fine, then the
second time he went out it was runny. So I'm taking a couple hours off
work to make sure that he doesn't have it again. He's sleeping in the
small crate. I think he feels more comfortable in there so I will
probably leave him in there today, since it seems he's just going to
sleep and move him to the bigger crate when he's ready. I'll be home
all day tomorrow so he won't have to go in there.
Last night I
woke him up to pee before we went to bed and when we went in he seemed
uncomfortable and just laid there so I got on the floor with him and
made him lay back and just kept petting his head until he went to
sleep. Poor guy is just not sure whats going on.
Thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers. I should know on Monday or Tuesday what the results of the biopsy are.
Got a crate
September 8, 2008.
Jakes crate is here. I'm still really nervous about leaving him all day in a crate while I work. I'm thinking about taking a half day and at least staying home with him in the morning to see how he does. If he's going to bother the stitches or not. Its been almost 6 years since I've had a dog in for surgery. I'm just really nervous. And he's not used to being in a crate all day, so its going to be a new experience for both of us.
Thursday is the day. I'll let you know how he does when he comes out of surgery and then it will probably be a week for the biopsy results.
Keep those thoughts and prayers going.
Jake is having Surgery
We tried to get some more samples. They came up fatty cells. The vet is 98% sure its not cancer. But I can't live with the 2% of not knowing so on Sept 11th Jake will have the tumor removed and we will have it biopsed so we know exactly what it is.
She said if its on the surface it will be easy to remove and he'll be back to normal in no time. If its in the muscle then he will have a longer recovery period because the muscle will have to heal. I'm hoping its on the surface. I have no idea other than sedatives of how to keep this VERY active and hyper dog quiet
Thanks for listening
Jake and Riley update
Last year I found a lump on Jakes chest. It was small and when we went for his annual exam they did a needle aspiration and said it was a fatty tumor.
Over the last 6 months its grown. So last saturday I took him in for his annul again and it had grown from 1cm to 2.4cm. The vet took another needle sample and got just fatty cells. She decided to take another one from a different angle. She got some other cells this time but when she put them on the slide they were broken and unidentifiable. So on August 28th we go back in for another try.
Riley is doing pretty good, he had a complete checkup because he was acting way out of character. Didn't want to go outside by himself. wouldnt' lay on the porch like he used to. Every thing checked out fine except his urine was diluted. I had noticed that he was drinking a lot more water than normal but as it had been very hot lately I figured it was the weather. So we are waiting to see if he slows back down when the weather cools or if we have to find another reason for his increased water intake.
Never a dull moment in our house
New to Blogging But gonna try
Well I'm not very good at keeping up with things but I'm going to give this a shot.
Both Jake and Riley have some issues and we have been working on them for over a year with a wonderful healer. They're attitudes have improved immensly and now we just need to tweak them a little.
Jake used to and still can be a very rambunctious dog. He gets excited and will nip at Riley. Riley is laid back and if Jake gets going too much and won't back off Riley lets him have it by way of attacking him. Jake when he was younger would just slink off. but now that he is older it results in a fight. So both dogs are seperate except when they are in the house with me. They have seperate pens, only one in the back yard at a time unless they are both on a run. etc. It seems to be working, Riley is much more relaxed and happier and Jake really has calmed down a lot. We continue to work with them and I know eventually they will be able to be together in the back yard to play.
