On a diet ! Grrrrrrrrrr
SO .....
I go to the Vet, which is just my favorite thing to do in the whole world anyway ...... and the Vet says to my wonderful, loving, nearly perfect Mother, who loves and adores me .....
" When Curly first came to our office in December of last year, she weighed 33 pounds "

Now she weighs 47.9 pounds. THIS IS NOT GOOD ! WHAT DID SHE EAT TODAY !?!?!?!???? ( like, I gained 15 pounds in an 8 hour period )
I ate 3/4 cups of California Naturals Chicken & Rice, 5 beef flavored bones dipped in peanut butter ( That Judy at work fed me ), a handful of french fries and cheezit crakers dipped in chilli ( that Pat at work fed me ) a few cubes of cheese that fell on the kitchen floor at work, 3 Beggin Strips (that Kerri at work fed me ) the ice cream that Mommy put in my bowl and my daily serving of yogurt that Daddy plops on top of my dog food ..... Why do you ask ?
" THIS IS A 40 POUND DOG, I WANT TO SEE HER AGAIN IN 3 MONTHS AND 7 POUND LIGHTER ! "
Keep in mind, I get walked at LEAST one hour a day, sometimes more if my Dad feels like walking me again at night, and I chase squirells, rabbits and geese off the mansion property at work. So I DO get plently of exercise
So to make a long story short ....... I have to go on the " light " version of my regular food and only eat Vet approved snacks. Shredded wheat ( boring ), Cherrios ( yawn ), Oyster crackers ( pah-leeeeeeze ) and puffed liver cubes ( at $30.00 per tiny bag, they better be good ). No more peanutbutter, cheese, icecream or french fries. I guess too much fat can give me pancreatitis.
All of this is a good thing and my Mom is in agreement ... she didn't enjoy telling all my friends at work to stop feeding me though. The Vet didn't blink an eye at the yogurt but the lady at the pet food store told my Mom to stop with the yogurt ..... Mom isn't unless the Vet tells her to stop with the yogurt.
My Mom wanted to hightail it out of the Vet's office before the Vet started yelling at my Mom about HER weight !.
Oh WOE is me ! So deprived ! So Starving !

Oh dear Curly! That is just awful! I was getting a little worried myself when grampy was saying I was gaining too much weight! But when I went to the vet 2 weeks ago he said I'm perfect at 64 lbs! Grammy says once I get to 65 I will be too big to sit on her lap! Maybe I ought to cut down on all those McDonald's double cheeseburgers!

Oh Curly, that sounds awfully cruel to take all those goodies away. I went to vet last year and he said to watch how much weight I gain to avoid problems with my hips later. Which was funny cause the vet had to be at least 30 lbs overwight himself (his shirt buttons looked like they might pop)
Chase a few more waterfowl, and add in a squirrel chase or two....that might work, too!

I (Rocky) am trying to loose the weight the wheat/grains that my old food had. I've been eating it more than the rest of the pack. Ever since I got neutered, I have gained weight! It's a hormone thing that does it. Myth, it's been said but it sure is close to the true! Olivia gained weight from the wheat/grains too but since she started eating raw food, she lost all the pounds needed. Olivia always used to go to the vet because she had a lot of heatlh problems. Ever since eating raw food, she hasn't.
Many vets are told it's not good but that's because they have been endored by the "fast food" for dogs. The vet told us no on raw food but mom said to them, "Have you seen any health problems in Olivia lately?" Nope.
Honestly, I wouldn't recommend eating wheat/grains because it is actually the #1 cause of health problems in dogs and many do are starting to avoid it. Why? Because dogs stomachs are not designed for that types of food. We are not cows! Yogurt is actually good for you, just let it be white yogurt. Many dog foods put that as their ingredient but they don't leave the good grains in. They leave us the leftovers humans won't eat and so is the meat they put in, like the by-products and the 4-D's (dead, diseased, dying and disabled) animals, which also include euthanized pets.

I wish you success on your diet. I was there last year. My Mommy made me stick to the diet so she did not get yelled at by the vet for a second time.
