Curly

I had a seizure today

I remember going to work with Mommy today. While she was pruning some dead branches out of a giant spruce, I went under the other large spruce so I could keep an eye on her.  There was a lot of shade, I remember being content. Then all the sudden I had to throw up. I sat up and started the usual wretching that goes on for a few times before anything  really happens and I saw my Mommy walking over to me. She kneelt down next to me and stroked my back and told me " It's OK ". I never did throw up.

The next thing I remember was my Mom and two very nice ladies all kneeling down next to me with their faces a few inches from mine. ( .... and these 2 ladies are really, really, Really nice to me, they pet me and bring me treats, I really like them alot ......)  I tried to stand up, but my legs were a little wobbly, and I was really confused. How did I get down on the ground ?

When did the 2 nice ladies come over ?  I keep smacking my lips and licking my nose, Why am I doing this ?  My Mom seems really nervous, I can tell, but I don't know why.

One of the nice ladies takes me inside where it is cool, but where's my Mom ? Oh, there she is..." Curly, go bye-bye in the car ? " The car is parked really close and all the windows are rolled up, but that's OK, it's nice and cool in there too.  Maybe, I"ll just lie down in the back seat and take a little nap, I feel tired.

Oh, Barkity - bark-bark-bark ! Are you Kidding me ? Why am I at the Vet's office ? We are taken back to 'the room' quickly. Maybe, I just lie down on this nice cool floor and take a little nap, I feel tired.

I hear Mommy talking to the Vet and I think she is talking about me. " She was just sitting under the tree and I saw her wretching and assumed she was going to throw up, so I went over to her. She didn't vomit after all , but after a few seconds she started convulsing, but it seems centered in her abdomen. This went on for a little while and then her legs went very stiff and she was spreading out her toes the way I will stretch out my fingers. Curly got very rigid and continued seizing for an extended period of time. Her eyes got very watery and fixated, but it didn't seems like she was looking at anything. Clear drainage was oozing from her nose and there was foam around her bottom lip. After several minties I went to the side door just a few yards away and knocked on the window asking for the gentleman in the office to call my supervisor because the dog was seizing. When I returned to the dog the seizure was still occuring. Two friends who work in the building came out to offer assistance. Then the dog seemed to tremor with less intensity like somone was slowing turning down the volume knob on the radio. The seizure stopped, but Curly seems disoriented ..... confused.

"Was she able to stand and walk?"  I head the Vet ask.

" Yes, but she was feeble. It took her a second to understand the request to move at all, then she seemed unable to get her feet to comply. She was looking around kinda of dazed and confused. She seemed groggy."

" Did she urinate or difficate during the seizure?"

"No", my Mom replied ..... but she seems to throw up ALOT! Several times a week. Always at night between midnight and 7am.  There is no food present - just some yellow foam. "

Then my Mommy told the Vet about something that I do, that I had NO Idea that I do.  " Curly is from the Humane society, so I don't know much about her history, but I thought she was just unsocialized, because this dog doesn't know how to play.  She'll chase the ball for a throw or two and then she sits down, quits playing and stares aimlessly into space. She won't respond to her name, she doesn't repond to the toy even if I ' bounce' the toy off of her to get her back in the game. I just thought no one played with her and she did not know how to play."

Then they want to take blood... Oh great, my favorite thing in the whole world ! As usual no one can get the blood out of my front leg, so I get wrestled to the ground with a blood draw taken from my back leg. The blood is for metabolic tests ? To make sure nothing else is going on with my organs that might cause a seizure ..... something about epilepsy ?

Like I said, I don't remember any of this. I was fine when I saw the Vet

( with in 30 minutes of the seizure, so I am told ).  I mean, I just figured that all dogs live life the way I do. I'm fine with things either way ... but, I think my Mom got scared.  She's a trooper though, she'll be fine, She is a Pit Bull in lipstick - She showed a little fear aggression of her own with the Vet .... Way to Go , Mom !

Anyhow ..... do any of you guys know what I am talking about ? I'm ignorant on this subject and need to get educated.

Bark. Peace, Out

XO Curly Kiss

Oh dear Curly...it's awful to be sick. Remember, there's going to be lots of people telling you "oh, yeah, my dog had that" and "oh, yeah, my dog had that too" but you are SPECIAL! What ever is causing this, you are on the right track with all the tests and your mommy sounds like one smart lady that will take that information and put it together with a good dose of her own common sense. This will all help so it doesn't ever happen again, so just hang in there and try to do that 'co-operating' thing humans are always talking about. We're thinking about you and we want to know EVERYTHING so tell your mommy she's got to keep us up to date as to how you are doing, okay?

Gosh Curly, we're sorry to hear you've had a bad time of it today.

And your mom we're sure was beside herself. But we just know that the "Doc" will fix you right up. Hey if you have to take meds it's not so bad, so Bailey Sue says. But whatever the outcome is, we're here for ya.

Hugs,

Oh Curly we are so sorry this happened to you today!  You are a very brave girl and very lucky to have had your Mom with you today!  We hope the blood tests will show nothing serious and all will be well with you.  You're our favorite Red-head!  We've got to get you all better.  Mommy did the right thing and was very brave!  Our mommy would have been very scared.  You just take it easy and work it girl!  You've got those big sad eyes...use them!  They probably make your mommy melt anyway but nows your chance...what do you want?  I think you'll be able to get anything you want now...but the VERY MOST IMPORTANEST THING is for you to rest!  The vet will get you all fixed up...we just know it!

Oh Curly we are so sorry to hear all that you and mom went thru today! Your mom did the right thing in bringing you right away to the vet! Best to wait and see what the results of the tests say. Curly are you eating anything wierd that you throw up yellow foam at night? Is anyone using any kind of chemicals at the place you go to with Mom? I mean on the grass and all.

We just heard thru the 'sick pup grapevine' about what happened to you today!!!!   Holy Dane Muffins, oh my Curly, how brave your mama was...and how scary it must have been for you. We don't know what's happening, but the vet will have the right answers when the tests come back. I have heard of a number of things that sound like what you do when you play, but it's best you only gets one answer and that is from the doggie doctor. No sense speculating at this point. You just rest and let mama and the vet take care of you. What nice ladies at your mama's work to help you and mama. Boy, it was lucky that you were with your mama and not alone. Hugzzz, slobbery Dane kisses.

Hugzzz, Monty
