California Wildfires

I haven’t been on MyDogSpace much lately.  Things have been a zoo around here. My dad and Olie and Ember’s dad are working hard on the 800 something fires burning in CA right now. We don’t get to see our dad’s much this time of the year. I just wanted to write a short blog because I have been moping around the house and waiting in the waiting spot for dad to come home. I am just not myself when he is away.

Boy have I been busy.

Ok, so maybe I haven’t been too busy but mom and dad have been.

First, dad came home after being gone 5 months.  He was taking me running every day on the beach. We would run ALL the way to California.  I like saying that because it sounds FAAAAAAAAAAR but it is only like 3 miles away.  We run where the beach and the river meet – so I get to go swimming in both. The river water makes my fur very soft.

Then, dad left again on some sort of top secret thing.  Mom doesn’t even know where he is at.  He said he will be back in a few days but he has already been gone for a few days.  Mom promised to take me to the river today and was packing me all up ready to go when she discovered the leash was with dad, of course.  The story is my family is losing my leash when I need it the most.  So, mom drove me to the dog bakery and bought a new leash which she likes much better anyhow.  And, I did get to go the river!

Here is a picture of me near where the river meets the ocean.

Food House, again.

FYI to all my peeps. I am going over to the Food House on May 2 and will be there probably until about May 9 or whenever Ma gets back from the San Francisco Bay Area. She is not taking a vacation – she is going to take care of family business surrounding my great-grannies death, so I am not very jealous. I will try and stop in and say hello, but I may not be able to. See you all when I get back. Miss you kids!  Have a fun Cinco de Mayo! Arriba Arriba!

New Halter

So, since Dad has been gone, ma and I don’t get out a lot.  For one, ma is really busy – but I think it is mostly because of the fact that I have always been allowed to run free and don’t walk on a leash well.  There isn’t any place here where a dog can run free unless you’re on federal or private property – and even the federal stuff requires a leash in places.  So, if mom would like to take me to the beach or river, I must be leashed.  I pull on the leash, drag ma around, and jerk her arm off.  Ma went to the Dog Bakery where they sell all sorts of pooch stuff and the kind man there sold her a special harness that prevents all the pulling.  It goes around my legs and under my armpits and has nice fleece liners so it doesn’t hurt me.  Then, when I pull it tights up – similar to draw reins or a martingale or tie down on a horse for those of you who are familiar with those.

Ma took me on my first trip with my halter to the state park where the river is.  I am allowed to be off-leash in the river because of technicalities that area has no leash law – but once I set foot on the river bank, I have to be leashed.  The new halter worked great and I really don’t mind it but mom gets confused on how it goes.  She took it off for me to swim good – but when it came time to put it back on she took forever! As much as I hate these darn leash rules – this halter thing is pretty neat.  I just wish all the other folks I see with their dogs on the river bar follow the law too.  It’s not fair that they don’t have leashes! I guess I am glad ma is law abiding – it protects her and me.

Here are some pictures of me with my new halter:

Problems, again.

Ok folks. I downloaded Firefox – it took me 10 minutes to load my page – this is after it wouldn’t load with FF or IE and Netscape took 6 minutes.  I know everyone says to can Netscape – but why is it working faster?  However, Netscape will not allow me to post barks, blogs, or anything in the forums.  I can only view my page and use e mail.  So -  I am really struggling here.  I never had any of these problems until a few weeks ago and nothing has changed on my end.  At this rate, it is like 30 minutes to leave one bark which is ridiculous and I don’t have the time.  I tried accessing from work but I work at a state agency and they have recently made a big stink about our computer usage (even on lunch or breaks) and they monitor everything so I am afraid I will lose my job if I am on the site and they catch me.  I don’t know what to do…  I will try and update if I find any solutions.  The biggest factor, I’m afriad, is dial-up, but because of my location it is quite literally my only option. So… stay tuned.  I miss you all.

Poo Poo on Netscape - Missing in action

Mom says my Netscape is dog poo poo.  It isn’t working and it won’t let me bark or write blogs or post to the forum or anything.  And, I used to make mom send my messages at work (yeah, she IS my slave) but she is afraid Big Brother is watching. I didn’t know mom had a brother so I don’t even know what she is talking about.

So anyhow – mom is slowly trying to dump Netscape and go with something else. But, she hasn’t had the time. Probably this weekend.  But, yahoo!. She finished her midterms so I don’t have to listen to her incessant whining about that anymore. Mom’s are such a pain.

So until we get our browser switched… we may be a little scarce.  Miss you guys!

Treadmill? What gives?

Most days mom teases me by saying she is going for a walk – of course with my limited attention span, I only hear the words "GO" and "WALK" and get excited.

It never fails, she means she is going to walk on this motorized belt thing called a treadmill. (We don’t go on too many normal walks because we live on top of a big steep hill).

I just don’t get this treadmill thing.  I mean, she is walking forever and gets nowhere. Now this makes no sense to me.  Normally, just to show her how much I protest it – while she is on there I proceed to get out every toy from my basket and display them on the floor in front of her.  I need to show her just what she is missing out on while she is on that thing!

And she said I should walk on one too and that they make them for dogs.  Guys, have you ever been on or heard of such a thing?  I wouldn’t be caught dead on one of those unless a sirloin was hanging in front of it on a string.

Me!

Do you bark when someone knocks at your door?

Probably yes. But. . . no one has knocked on our door in years – not kidding. We live out in the boondocks… people don’t just come by,  it might be the "Trespassers will be shot, survivors will be shot again"  sign Mom and Dad posted on the fence.

Do you sleep on your owner’s bed at nightime?

Sometimes. My owner’s have a king size bed and now with Dad gone for a bit, ma and I have plenty of room so I normally sleep next to her. Even if I don’t sleep there ALL night, I always come in the morning and snuggle before ma gets up.

Are you mischievous?

Rarely, I sneak in the pond sometimes but because it’s shallow I only get pond scum on my feet and legs.  I have been known to dig holes here and there but I live on a lot of property so Mom and Dad don’t care.

Would Cesar Milan be proud of your owner or would have a few things to say?

Cesar probably wouldn’t approve of me sleeping on the sofa or in mom’s bed. Otherwise I am very good. No seriously, I am. Mom says I am the most well behaved dog she’s ever had. But Cesar would probably have something to say about my separation anxiety.

Do you have a best friend to play with?

I have a cat named Kitty Man who clearly likes me more than I like him. The neighbors have a large parcel too and their dogs run free so sometimes they come for a visit.  They have three – I like one or two of them.

Do you get excited and jump around when your parent(s) arrive home or do you remain calm and cool?

Yes I get "bouncy" is what mom and dad call it. I love it when they come home!

Does your Mom (or Dad) leave the tv or radio on when they have to leave you at home alone?

Yes, Ma leave the Food Network on for me every day, no kidding.

Do you like other dogs besides your pals?

Yes, the neighbor dogs mentioned above. Also there are 2 chihuahuas at the FoodHouse name Margie and Gracie.

Do you like cats?

Not particularly but I have to put up with Kitty Man, at least he doesn’t have a sissy name.

What is your most unique habit/characteristic?

This one is hard.  Probably my sweetness. I snuggle with ma. I really am a lovey dog.

What is your favorite thing to do with your Mom or Dad?

Go to the beach, go hunting, or go fishing. Ma and Dad are both foresters and before they worked for state agencies I went everywhere with Dad in the woods. I miss that. You should see me in the woods. I can leap from log to log with the greatest of ease!

What proves that you are the alpha in your house (that you have Mom/Dad wrapped around your paw)?

Ma and Dad buy me the expensive dog food… and cater to my every need of course!

Honey, I'm HOOOOOMMEE!

Hi dog buddies:

<> Mom picked me up from the FoodHouse and I am home now. I was SOO happy to see mom. She even let me ride in the front seat on the way home since the back was filled with junk.

I am exhusted, it just isn’t the same sleeping on your bed in a house that isn’t your own, ya know. I need to do some major catching up on my beauty sleep.

Thanks to all my friends who barked at me while I am gone, I’ll have to check all the barks and bark back as soon as I can.

Mom is supposed to have her midterms done at the end of the month so I will be helping her to do that so we might not get to bark too much just yet. (see the "Mom is losing her mind" blog).

Astrid:  I’ll bend her ear about your legal trouble.

Gone for a week

Hey friends:

Mom is leaving Saturday and she’ll be gone about a week. I have to go to the Food House (where I get lots of ham and endless other goodies) Oh darn! So, I might not get on here much – they don’t let dogs use their computer as freely as mom does. I mean, I could be looking at XXX sites or something, I guess. Mom said she’ll try and pop on here but internet service is spotty where she is going. I will miss you all and be anxiously awaiting seeing you all again!
