Thank You! Lights of Remembrance / If you have currently lost a pet or want to remember a living animal this christmas , this is a wonderful way to do it. Espicially if one of your animals was from a shelter.
Thanks to all who read this and participated in Petlites.org!
Now that Christmas is here i wanted to introduce everyone to a wonderful animal charity that I have been giving to the last few years. It all started because my cat had died close to christmas, and months earlier my dog had died too. I had wanted a way to remember them both. I found this charity online that was actually located a few towns away. They put lights on a tree in your beloved pets honor for christmas, I believe the fee was maybe 5 bucks each light. By also buying a light I was also helping animals currently in their shelter . I was so devasted with the passing of my pets at this hard to get threw time of year, this really helped me with my grieving. So now its a christmas tradition for me. If you have currently lost a pet or want to remember a living animal this holiday, this is a wonderful way to do it. Espicially if one of your animals was from a shelter. Send a little more if you can, and please remember your helping animals who need YOUR help.

The Plainfield Area Humane Society is a private non-profit organization and has been in continuous operation since 1933. Every animal we rescue gets every chance to find it's Forever Home, regardless of age, health or its status as a stray, abandoned or released animal.
This charity for a very small donation will put a light on a tree for rememberance of any animal(s) of yours living or past away during the Christmas season. Not only does your pet get a light of rememberance ,but your donations help animals in their shelter.
How it all began:
Lights of Remembrance , begun in 1992 by founder and chairperson Sandra Campbell, was originally known as the "Tree of Love," a project to raise funds for the then Somerset County Humane Society, located in Branchburg, NJ. From those humble beginnings, raising money for a small, independent shelter, the project grew and changed its name to Lights of Remembrance, Inc., and began raising money for two different shelters, one of which was the Plainfield Area Humane Society.
The Lights of Remembrance project, until 2004, was run by the same people that started
"Tree of Love." In an act of supreme generosity, Sandra and Barry Campbell and the board of LOR, Inc., turned over the Lights of Remembrance to the Plainfield Area Humane Society. PAHS will receive the benefit of all contributions, and in addition, PAHS now owns Lights of Remembrance.
The LOR tree was located at the then Fleet Bank in Branchburg, NJ, until that tree died. The tree lighting ceremony now takes place on the Plainfield shelter grounds, with a very special tree known as "Emily's Tree". The ceremony will always take place on December 6, Emily's birthday, with a light on the tree for each beloved pet remembered.
In 1997, a dogwood tree was planted at the shelter in memory of our dear friend and Board member, Emily M. Ross. She was a tireless volunteer who cared deeply about the animals at PAHS. When she died, the dogwood was planted, seeming to be a fitting tree, at least by name. Unfortunately, the little tree never thrived in the circle at the shelter. The rains sat too long and the summer sun beat down on it. The little tree died the spring of 2007.
After some research and help from the experts, a Norway Spruce was purchased by Emily's mother and brother and sister. We no longer have a "different" tree dressed in lights for our Lights of Remembrance, but a typical Christmas tree. This tree will thrive and reach to the stars. It is bigger now than the dogwood ever was, so there is room for many more lights.
Be sure and mark your calendar for the lighting ceremony December 6th on the shelter grounds.
Thank you, and we hope to see you there!
