Sid V.. Chow Ambassador..

It was a warm Saturday morning, too warm for hiking or running or anything to exert myself so I just lounged around in the shady part of the dog park.  Just as my Momma and I were deciding to leave, a lady walked up to the gate with 3 huge labs.  The lady asks my Momma “Is your dog OK?”  My Momma says “Sid is great!” So the lady brings in her 3 labs.  One of the labs started to growl at me so his Momma kept him on his leash.  The other 2 sniffed me a little.  I was scared but I let them walk up to me and check me out.  Five minutes pass and the lab on the leash starts to relax so his Momma thought it would be OK to let him off his leash.  He didn’t growl at me and I let him sniff me and he let me sniff him.  The labs Momma asks my Momma if we come here a lot and my Momma says “every day and twice on Saturday and Sunday”..  The labs Momma said she won’t come when there are a lot of dogs in the park and the only reason she came in this time was that I looked like I was a well behaved dog.  Of course I am, I don’t rush the gate, I don’t growl or bark, I don’t run up to other dogs and pounce on them as soon as they walk through the gate.  There are a lot of Mom’s and Dad’s out in my area that will not bring their dogs into the park but if it’s just me they will.  My Momma hears, all the time, “Oh my dog won’t bite”..  My Momma says to them “All dogs will bite, you just have to learn how to READ your dogs body language and learn how to protect them from stressful situations”..  It’s good to be a Chow Ambassador.

The clink of a tag.. :(

UndecidedE Freakin’ Gad!  I know what it is like to wear a collar and I am a perfect gentle-Chow on a leash.  I’ve been doing it quite perfectly, I might add, for over a year.  Today my Momma gets the rediculous idea to finally put on my tags.  YUK! I HATE the sound those stupid things make!  I have to tippy toe around so they don’t clink together and make this HORRIBLE HORRIBLE NOISE! I hate it!

SIGH…......  I hope I can get used to the sound they make because I know she’s supposed to make me wear them, she just never has.  I guess because we go to the dog park now she feels that she better have proof that I’m licensed and vaccinated.  ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

YellOMFG!! I was attacked again!  This time me and my Momma went to the dog park at about 5:20pm.  There was only one other dog in the park, some sort of bull dog mix.  We get to the gate and my Momma asked if their dog was friendly.  They said "yes"..  SOOO, we go in.  We were not in there more then 20 seconds and the other dog savagly attacks me and pins me to the ground.  My Momma was RIGHT on top of the other dog (no fear, my Momma) and yelled AHHHHHHH, and scared the other dog so he stopped.  The owners of the dog called him over, didn’t apologize or nothing.  My Momma said, "We’re leaving, we’ll come back when you’re gone"..  They didn’t say a word.  Now my Momma is writing a letter to the town major because she said the next time that happens she’s calling animal control and she’s telling them they have to leave the park.  My Momma is so mad right now that she can barely stand it.  Stupid stupid lame a$$ people!!!

grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

OH MY Chowness!  :(  Me and my Momma have been going to a real dog park for the past couple of weeks.  It’s really a lot of fun because all sorts of dogs go there and I’ve been making friends that I see all the time.  Well, tonight it was just me and Gracie (Gracie is a 6 month old Rotti and she already weighs more then me)..  This man brings in his dog who actually looked friendly..  HMMMMMMM…  The dog growled and attacked me and Gracie.  Both me and Gracie got scared and would not leave our Momma’s sides.  Gracie kept coming to me to see if I was ok but by then I was just TOO scared and didn’t even want Gracie to pay attention to me, (poor Gracie)..

I was very jumpy by the end of our trip and I was ready to go home.  Now I’m just laying on the floor relaxing after my run in with that mean dog.  Maybe next time that other dog will be more friendly.  :)

InnocentI had so much fun at the park tonight.  You see it’s soccer time in my area so the park is always filled with screaming running squeally kids.  They are so small and cute.  Tonight about 6 little 7 and 8 years olds walked up to me saying awwwwwww, how cute, so fluffy, (all that stuff)..  Anyways, their voices were so high and squeacky, I loved it and I got so excited and wanted to see them SO bad!  My Momma kept a good hold of my leash though because she says I’m too big and I might scare them if I get too excited and jump on them.  HAHA InnocentI woldn’t do THATTEE HEE..  The girls all wanted to pet me and all of a sudden I see a million hands come towards my face!  I jumped!  They did ask if they could pet me so my Momma shows them how to pet under my chin first.  One little girl asked my Momma why.  My Momma explained that when they ask to pet a dog that they don’t know that they should always pet under the chin first because if you pet them on the head it makes the dog think you’re tyring to be their boss.  :)  The little girls listened really good and when other girls came up they explained the same thing to them!  What good girls they all were.  I was getting a little too excited though so my Momma said we had to leave.  Ok, so I started jumping and leaping around the girls which made them squeal even louder, so cute and kinda scarry at the same time.  A fun day at the park.

Hello furfriends!  I hope you all had a wonderful 3 day weekend with your fur-rents..  Wink

Tonight at the park there were a lot of families having picnicks, yum their food looked good!  When I see a family I like I laydown and watch them.  It kinda embarrasses my Momma but she’s getting used to my antics.  Cool

There was this one family that I was just fasinated with!  I layed on the ground and just watched them, about 5, or so, minutes later, the Dad asked my Momma what my name was.  She calls out Sid.  Well, I notice that the Dad asked about me so I jumped up and started walking towards him.  My Momma calls "Sid wants to come visit, is it ok?"  The Dad said "sure" so off I went.  The Dad let me give him kisses and I let him pet me.  They had a yummy looking bowl of food and I started to sniff it but my Momma pulled me away. HOW WRUDE, all I wanted was a taste.  Ok, so then we headed off through the park and it was so hot that it made me tired so I layed down in the grass again.  My Momma let me lay in the grass and she sat in the back of the Jeep watching me.  I was almost 50 feet away from her.  YES, she still had a hold of my leash because she doesn’t trust me yet.  While I was laying on the grass a little boy kept riding his scooter by me.  He would get JUST a little closer each pass.  I was so good, I just kept laying where I was and watched him roll by.  I think my Momma was a little scared that I would leap towards the little boy but I didn’t.  I stayed.  I was calm.  I was being an Ambassador!  LOL, I looked the part too, all I needed was a robe or a crown or something.  tee hee.

I love going to the park.  My Momma and I have gone to that park every day all summer long and we have only ran into 2 people who said something wrude and one of them is now a walking buddy.  :)  We like her, she’s actually nice.  See, you can’t judge someone on first impressions, sometimes those impressions are wrong.  :)

So, my tip of the day?  The calmer you are and the calmer your Momma or Dad can be, the calmer people will be around you.  :)  I know, it’s kind of hard to be calm when there are so many people to play with but I’m tellin’ ya..  I have to be calmer then other dogs because I have 4 strikes against me..

I’m big

I’m black

My fur sticks out

I’m a Chow.

Hear me roar! GRRRRRRRRR..

What's a Chow Ambassador

CoolAs the title states – My Momma and I are Chow Ambassadors.  The word "Ambassador" has several meanings.  We fall into the 4th definition, which is:

An unofficial representative: ambassadors of goodwill.

Our goal, or mission as you will, is to educate, inform, learn and be seen by anyone who will look, talk and listen to what we have to say.

I don’t know if you all realize this but the Chow Chow breed is in the list of the "top 10" dangerous dogs.  Oh brother I say but that is just my own humble opinion and the goal is to change the opinion of others.  Ok, so I know that one will only change if they WANT to change and it’s NOT my job to ‘change’ others.  BUT, I can and will continue to "talk the walk" and "walk the talk."  A smile and a kind word goes way further then argueing, belittling or badgering a person to see your point of view.

If a person says "Oh, Chows are dangerous and cannot be trusted"..  My Momma says "Really, I’ve never had that experience."  "That’s too bad you had that experience and if you want to see what a well mannered Chow is about then, by all means, come say hello to Mr. Sid Vicious"..

Some people are rude to her and tell her "NO WAY"..  Do you know what my Momma does when that happens?  LOL, she walks away, goes to the very first child she sees and let’s them give me a cookie while the RUDE person watches with amaze. My Momma really could care less about the rude people of the world because she knows they will always exist and they probably live very shallow and empty lives because they are not willing to experience new and different ideas.

Why am I rambling on like this?  Well, it is a blog isn’t it?  That’s what blogging means..  BLOG..  It’s actually a shortened word.  It originally meant Weblog..  BLOG.

Oh, sorry, got off track…  So, if you like, follow along as I post my stories of meeting people, reading as I tell how my Momma educates and informs and see if any of her tips on interacting with others is something you’d like to try.  Being a Chow is good.  Having a great Chow parent is better and meeting people and other dogs is the best.  :)

8-31-07 Park Trip

CoolI absolutely LOVE going to the park.  Tonight we ran into this little dog we see there every night.  The first time my Momma met the woman the woman said she didn’t trust Chows because "they" were all mean and "they" couldn’t be trusted.  WELL!!  After a couple of weeks of the lady seeing me walk with other dogs and watch me not bark or growl or be aggressive she started to talk to us.  TONIGHT she asked if me and my Momma wanted to walk through the park with her and her little guy.  :)  It was a good night for the Ambassadors of Chows..  :)
