My family found me while researching Portuguese Water  Dogs (Spanish Water Dogs are not as big as PWD's). Everyone in my family is happy that they found me instead; no offense to PWDs. I am medium dog, I should get to 40-50 pounds and 18" tall. I have many traits that PWD's have; non-shedding, single coated (hypo-allergenic) and a great love of the water. SWD's are considered a rare breed in the U.S., and are not (yet) recognized by the AKC, but are by the UKC. I am considered a working dog in the gun dog group. My breed was mainly used for herding, retrieving and assisting fisherman in Spain. I love the water and will find it wherever I am, even if I have to look down a drain, splash in my water bowl, a fountain, the beach, a toilet (yuck). I love pools best. I love to retrieve. My mom is a search & rescue snow dog in Utah. I will be doing something soon, maybe agility, search and rescue or therapy. I need something to challenge me physically and mentally each day. My family adores me and takes me everywhere with them. Once I get sheared, my coat will grow back in cords, resembling dred-locks. In the mean time I am wearing a 'sweater' out here in California.
