Some info on APBT:
The Pit Bull is blessed with tenacious athletic ability (the ultimate super dog), loyalty, intelligence, and high energy. These dogs are not lap dogs or a dog for the lazy person.
They are not fashion accessories or macho-tough-guy symbols. American Pit Bull Terriers are a breed apart from every other canine on earth.
No other breed in history has been so misunderstood or made the villain as long or as often as the Pit Bull. Sadly, these trends continue 20 years after they started.
As a whole the breed is one of the most stable and safe dogs around today. Far to many news stories are blown out of proportion (go figure huh?) to sell newspapers and get people to tune into the 6 o'clock news.
While we do understand that yes, some of these dogs do indeed bite and attack people. They are not representatives of an entire breed of canine. In other words, while 20 dogs out of 5,000 will bite, that doesn't mean the other 4,980 will.
A correct Pit Bull will never be aggressive with people. The Pit Bull has been breed for centuries to be a human-friendly dog. It is not a guardian breed, and therefore should not display suspicion towards strangers or view them as potential threats. It is uncommon for a Pit Bull to be overly shy.
The Pit Bull is likely to meet all strangers with an open heart and a wagging tail. A normal Pit Bull looks upon all people as friends unless their actions prove otherwise.
Generally Pit Bulls are submissive with people and confident in their surroundings, making for a well-adjusted family dog. Since times past when the Pit Bull was used for hunting of large game and as a farm dog, it has been a cherished fixture of family life.
The Pit Bull has a special fondness for children and a pleased, relaxed look crosses its face when they approach. It can prove to be a safe, hardy friend that can keep up and put up with the active play life of kids. For a child, no better companion can be found.
It is reported on temperament tests conducted by the American Temperament Test Society the American Pit Bull Terrier has a current (December 2004) passing rate of 83.9% -- compared to only 77% of the general dog population.
Why we got an APBT:
These are among the most loyal dogs they will do anything to please their owners and have so much love to give, they are literally the most versitile dog in my opinion in that they can suceed in anything they do. You gotta love these dogs.
