I really thought I was going to get sick watching this. To actually SEE it. I made a post to a young member on here in a very kind way about her decision to "just have puppies" with her neighbor's dog. I worded my response very kindly, I feel you get more with honey than vinegar as they say. I am actually looking on "URGENT" lists for a Shiba Inu companion for Kitsu (spayed of course) The gassings, the injections, I give anybody who works rescue a hell of a lot of credit after watching this. I worked at Mass General Hospital ER as well as Childrens Hospital ER. I have seen a lot of tragedy and death. But I have never seen death this way before in the sense of murder as that poor shelter worker woman put it. God bless her and everyone that has to go through this. Giving my furbaby extra hugs tonight ... and my children. So grateful for what we have, the gift of life. I have to sign off.

Confession: I can not bring myself to watch the video. I have lived it (PTS) one too many times ~ with my own aged pets and rescues who were unadoptable fear-biters.
DaneMom smacked the nail on the head, more than once. It's all about RESPONSIBILITY. Do the research, save your money, and make sound decisions on adding that MEMBER to your family. A pet is NOT a casual, disposable entity.

I know what you mean Tina though I've only done it once. I hope I don't ever have to do it again (you never forget that window of time) but I probably will.

Life is a learning process....thank heaven's for that, I'd hate to think that my learning was arrested 20 years ago, heck, even last year I was an idiot compared to what I have learned this last year, and the excitement for me is that I can't wait to know, what I don't know, I don't know next year.
There are times in our lives that we make decisions based on what we know, at that time. As we learn, our decisions may have been different, but since we can't go back in time, we can only go forward, and make the decisions based on what we have learned. There should be no shame attached to decisions made in the past that we regret due to lack of information. It takes courage to share those decisions, and to know that thru the sharing, we make a difference in the lives of others. Mentoring is a lost art, but through these forums (THANKS ROBERT AND HERSHEY FOR PROVIDING THEM) we can mentor each other. We can share information, pain, heartache, and sorrow, and even regrets in a safe place....and in doing so we mentor one another.
I have noticed a much younger group beginning to join MDS. What a wonderful opportunity you all have to shape the lives of these precious children....and pass the torch to another generation about the love, loyalty, and the responsibilty about pet ownership.
I am proud to be a part of MDS and to call so many of you friends.

Cute video, greater reminder. I am going to call and make an appointment for Kitsu to be neutered. Things got away from me over the holidays. Also I was looking for a companion for him, but the more Jim and I are shifting around our schedules, I think it is wise to wait. We will still always have somebody home, but we want to let changes settle in first. When i commit to an animal it has always been for life, and I want to be 100% ready for that. Plus I want a rescue dog that gets along with other dogs, cats, kids, etc. And you wouldn't believe the number of unspayed Shibas out there (not direct from rescues). How could we ever "introduce them"??? Like the video says it takes two to tango, so I think I will unenroll Kitsu in his tango lessons very soon...

I'm with Tina on this one... I can't even bring myself to watch the video, after hearing other's responses. But I just posted a topic under the advice section saying I need info on backyard breeding. That was before I noticed this topic. I still can't watch the video though... Anyhow, the situation, as described in the Advice section, is that I know two people planning to breed their pit bulls, and I'm looking for a way to convince them not to. I'm so tempted to just send them several articles that I've been pointed towards, but I'm dealing with people that are barely literate, so I need to find a good simple way to make this point, but need to be very careful about how I approach it, or I'll just make them mad and my point won't get across. Please tell me, without making me watch the video, if I send the video to them, will they get the point? Is it about backyard breeding, or is about overcrowding in shelters, which they won't care about? So far all I've said is to make sure they do their research (yeah, right, that'll happen).
