With the pet food recall and latest news....yes! it's scary. I have two articles on my experience on my blog. Being the *fanatic* that I am....I learned that the organic chicken strips I feed as treats in the morning are made in (guess where?) bird flu haven, China!!! argh!!!!!!!!!!!

We feed our dogs Natural Balance. We use to feed our dogs Iams, but after doing a lot of research we changed them to Natural Balance. Natural Balance did recall their foods with venison and just recently all of the canned foods because of one case of botulism in their caned people food, but unless something else comes up we are keeping our pups on this. It's all natural, doesn't have any artificial preservatives, flavors, colors, or bleached ingredients, and does not contain corn, soy, wheat, rice, eggs, dairy products or sunflower oil. We feed our dogs the Duck and Potato dry formula and it's made with fresh duck, fresh potatoes, canola oil, salmon oil, etc. Our dogs couldn't be healthier and they look and act better than ever! :)

I am on the holisitic food TV recommended. Tastes great, less filling, fresh! Of course I still scrounge for table scraps, too (guy can hope, right?).....speck

For the first time in five years, we did not need our teeth cleaned! Our food is holistic, crunchy, & dry (no corn, wheat, soy, or by-products).

After discovering that Blue Buffalo was shanghied by the manufacturer of their canned dog food (suspected rice protein contamination), I since switched over to Merrick canned food for Pogo's dinner only. She's still on Blue for breakfast. Anyway, I've been totally impressed with the quality of what comes out of the can: full chicken thighs minus bones and skin, plus apples, sweet potatoes and more good stuff like olive oil. The delicious smell of the New Zealand Summer Lamb sausages is totally overwhelming and I may try one myself soon. Just my opinion, but the canned food is more than twice the bulk of kibble, has plenty of moisture and is less calories than the equivalent kibble! Merrick makes all their own stuff and is a family owned business.

My only concern would be...your dog's teeth. The kibble acts as a toothbrush. A wolf consumes bone (crunch) along with muscle and organs. It would be better to feed the wet in the AM, dry in the PM. ;-)

Tina, I suppose you have a point, however, in the afternoon, Pogo gets a a stuffed hoof or a dental green or a pigskin roll. Her teeth are white as can be with no trace of tartar. She loves to chew on anything hard.

Inkaye ~ don't laugh...I HAVE tried my dogs' food and all their treats (no, I did not bark afterwards). If the pack is going to get it, I had to know what it tasted like.....I did draw the line on the wet cat food, though. ;-)

Have you guys ever looked at raw food? here is a great link with lots of good info about diet, etc... www.auntjeni.com even if you don't switch your dogs to this food, you will learn alot about proper nutrition for your kids. Jeni has many articles and even early "recipies" The food is 100% complete and balanced no supplements needed, but if you fix your own food/kibble whatever she offers a variety of organic, holistic grain-free treats, food, supplements. Its worth a look
