Hi everyone,

this question is about the Hartz medication.  I am not sure if you have read my blog but to make a long story short we used Hartz flee and tick drops on Sadie.  Later I find out this is a bad medicine.  It was to late she now has a lot of hair loss and very itchy skin.  i talked to Hartz and they said to send my vet bills a letter requesting a refund and then they will decide if they will refund my money.  They also asked for a diagnosis from the vet which she wrote for me.  I am just wondering if anyone else has delt with them and how it went.  Also do you think if they won’t pay I should contact a lawyer?  I think I have a case,  What do you think?

I’m sure there was a warning on the package and if all the dog suffered was hairloss I think an attorney would laugh.

Actually there was no warning.  the only warning was it may cause drooling if they lick the spot.

I would think if you could get a free legal consultation, it’d be worth it… though I’d hesitate to start paying an hourly fee if you can’t find a free consultation.  I don’t know the first thing about doing stuff like that, but I’d be super PO’ed if that happened to my dog and I’d sure be tempted to take legal action.  Is she allergic to something in it, or is this common for Hartz?  Either way, I’m glad to know it happened… it’s often tempting to pick some of that up when I see it, now I most definitely never will.  So if in the end, you don’t get anything out of this, at least be comforted knowing you spread the word and helped prevent it happening to another dog!  That won’t pay your vet bill, but it’s sure worth something.

If you explain to any lawyer about the case and they think it is worthwile, they will waive any fees until you have won the case. Especially if you can PROVE it was that Hartz crap that caused it.

The other side will argue back that you purchased and applied it, accepting responsibility. The old “Guns don’t kill people; people (USE guns to) kill”, argument.

DEFintely send in documentation!! You have nothing to lose. Keep copies and also whom you spoke with at Hartz, along with notes of conversation, date and time.

Generally speaking, anything you get over the counter (not thru your own vet) is going to be ineffective and/or possibly dangerous. Talk to other pet owners and your vet before you use anything on your dog.

i would contact a lawyer, but only with the understanding yhat if he or she feels you have a case then they get paid only if you win or settle. that way you are not out huge fees and no lawyer will take you if they don’t feel you do have a case. also, i would never buy anything over the counter, its usually noneffective anyway. sorry your dog was harmed.

I’m glad I found this post, because I was considering buying hartz flea and tick drops, but now I know I’m not going to.

Hartz has been putting out bad stuff that has killed pets for years. Just google it and you’ll come up with about 800+

I have used hartz! Within a week, my dog loss a lot of hair! The beginning of her tail was bald, her legs were balding, and her hind quarters are especially bald. I have taken her to the vet and they told me she had an allergic reaction to the hartz. BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU USE
