Hi there
I found out today from my sister, Charm, who's dog is an two-times-a-day isullin dependant diabetic, that the vets are now saying there is a dispensing fee of $20.00 for the vets to physically hand over a vial of Insullin! This is a fee on top of the medication itself!!!!!
Another issue with this, is she also has to pay for the needles, but if you are human, you don't pay for the syringes!
Unfortunately also, there is not pet insurance that will cover her dog, because of her health problems.
What the heck is going on in this world, the rich are getting richer, poor getting poorer and it is now a case if you own a vet surgery, you can charge people more money to keep your animal (family member) alive!
Please jump on this band wagon and have your say, I personally want this issue to be raised locally and internationally, as it is wrong! (yes, i am biting my tongue and not waging my tail)

That is really offensive. Has she tried a different vet?
Also, has she asked for a prescription that she can have filled at a regular pharmacy? Zack, one of my yorkies, has allergies, and the medicine he takes is the same as one that I take sometimes - just a smaller dose. Once I started having it filled at Walgreens or CVS, it went from over $20 for 10 pills to $7 for 30 pills. You have to ask the vet though, they don't volunteer this. (The prescription is written to Canine Zack, I guess to make sure I don't try to get my insurance to pay for it - as if I would or they would).

Hi bella, thanks for posting this for me. unfortunatley canine insulin in australia is different to that of humans. only if your dosage goes to a unusually high amount, will human insulin work on canines, so getting the insulin from a chemist is not an option at this point.
