A friend asked me a question and I was not sure of the answer. At what age should you switch your dog to a senior formula dog food? Or is it not necessary?
She has a Lab by the way.

A mature dog food (for ages 6-7 + up, and less active dogs) would have less calories and more fiber than regular formula. What is the dog on, now? Any health issues? tina

How old is the lab? At a good weight (can feel ribs?)? Good energy level?
Find out the food they are on.........as much of a holistic nut as I am ......as they say, if it isn't broken....don't fix it........

I think he is 8. Kinda over weight. Plenty of energy.

Sounds like he needs to be on a lite food (8+ & chubby). If a dog is overweight, it can cause a lot of stress on the internal organs --- esp the heart; this can DECREASE their life span.

I'd say about 8+ but if your dog is sensitve to different kinds of dog food, ask your vet. He may need to stay on his current food, or take pills if he is overweight.

Doggie Diet Pills???? Give me a break! Good walks, and a nutritious diet will do all of us wonders. I am 30 something and supplement with a "joint aid" , I damaged my knees when I was younger, but have learned alot more about health, and apply that to my 4-legged family as well. Being "active" is the best key to happiness. Humans/pets be active=stay fit=eat healthy, very simple. good luck

I didn't know there were such things. I'm with Kay. Have arthritis in just about every joint but take suppliments and walk several miles a day. Along with the Aussies of course. One of mine has a weight problem. Can you imagine if she didn't have those walks. Good Year blimp! Good luck with food change. When all the reg formula I have now is gone my beefy one is going on lite.
